Carry Along Project - Afghan Crocheted in Panels

Friday May 16, 2008
This afghan makes a great on-the-go project to carry along in your craft bag when you will need to be anywhere that will involve waiting (doctor's office, airport and so forth). When summer weather is too hot to have an in-progress full size afghan across your lap, but you want to crochet an afghan for yourself or for a gift, these panels can be the answer for a summer afghan project, as you will only be working on one narrow panel at a time.

This pattern is started by making a long chain, then working single crochet stitches in one loop only around both sides of the chain to form a long oval. Several more long oval rounds are added to form the design.

When the panels are completed, they are joined with single crochet stitches or slip stitches, worked in back loops only, along the edge of each panel.

Pattern directions are given for a small afghan sized to cover a lap (called a lapghan or lap robe) and for a full-size afghan.
