Your Current Crochet Interests
Hello crochet-loving friends,
I am really curious about your project interests. With that in mind, I've created a poll.
The poll lists some popular types of crochet projects. You are free to select more than one answer if you wish. I realize that the answers in the poll don't cover every base, so please feel free to leave comments if there are other answers that are more applicable to your current interests.
Thanks in advance to everyone who participates in the poll. I'd love to hear from you, and I look forward to learning more about what type(s) of projects you're interested in crocheting.

I am really interested in finding Victorian era patterns and those for lace as well.
I’m interested in crochet table toppers
I’m interested in useful crochet clothing for little boys using G or larger hooks. There are so many patterns for girls, but hardly anything for boys. Thanks.
I love making and using bags!
During the hot months, I like doing filet crochet and amigurumi.
During the cold months, I switch to scarves, hats, afghans.
However, if I learn that a co-worker is going to have a baby, then I drop everything to do a baby blanket, hat, cardigan or booties.
Thank you for being willing to take on another
project! I’ve missed the crochet newsletter
very much.
I’ve been exploring “alternative” yarns, like crocheting with plastic bags & wire. I’ve recycled old sheets into crocheted rugs.
I am always interested in ladie’s shawls, preferably triangular. I always want new baby blanket or afghan patterns as well as scarves and hats. Do you have a good chula hat pattern?
am making things for two churches, that are distributing them among shelters and the homeless.
The newest things I was asked to make are things for preemies.
Love to make all those items and it gives me a feeling of being needed.
I’ve started to “tunisian crochet” again.
I make scarves, etc. as gifts and for fundraisers. I find this a good technique to use with fuzzy/furry yarns. Perhaps some patterns for simple garments, please. The books on this technique are few and far between. Thank you.
I’m a beginner of sorts. I came back after a 40 year absence to Crochet. I wanted to lose weight (like the commercial) so keeping my hands busy was perfect. So much wonderful information on the internet I have made shopping totes, afghans, and gave up on the toy. Looking forward to the newsletter.
I like making doll clothes for my granddaughter. I do this in the summer time to use up bits of yarn. I really enjoy it and when my grandchildren get too old, I probably will continue to do this for charity. I will purchase the doll and make a wardrobe for her. Winter I often do afghans if someone wants one. I am a knitter so I can keep busy between the two.
and our church ladies I do a lot of prayer shawls and lap robes that are quick and easy.
Thank you for the patterns you have made available to me/us.
Carol
Currently making “boas” and other small items with novelty yarns. I always have an afghan or two (or three!) in the works. I have (so far) been successful in keeping up with co-workers weddings, retirements and babies. Each of these events receives an afghan. I am dabbling in womens clothing. Shawls/wraps have always been my obsession though.
I’m thrilled to see About return. My current projects are bags, purses, and tablecloths as Christmas presents for family. I also am crocheting rectangles for a group dedicated to our wounded in service.
I love every project that adds a touch of elegance to the place specially doilies, table runners and wall hangings.
I’d prefer to see stes, like a set of doilies for the living room, a set of mats for the kitchen…. etc.
thank you
also interested in bags and purses!
Being the “mother” of two toy poodles, I am interested in making dog clothes and toys.
I am really interested in tunisian crochet projects, but information (and patterns) can be hard to find…if you have any suggestions that would be great!
I love to make Tote Bags. I enjoy the patterns on Lion Brand website, but I also get a lot from other places and good ideas from the crochet.about and the knitting.about newsletters!! I love the entralac techniques in knitting and to make different style grannie squares in crochet and combine them together to make a unique and fun afghan. I am notorious for starting projects and forgetting what I am doing so I have patterns and yarn that is UFO. It is a stress relief and time killer for a full time x-ray tech and mother of two young children. I love crochet!!
I like making purses, tote bags, pillows, and using unique fibers to crochet with.
I’m crocheting bowls and totes to be felted-much quicker than knitting and very satisfying. I would be interested in more felting projects.
I am in love with delicate antique edging patterns. I am very interested in curtains also. I also need patterns for hand puppets (like sock puppets that can move their mouths).
At the moment I’m really hung up on Sapmi Bead Cord, making jewelry mostly.
Otherwise I like thread crocheting, using ordinary patterns but using tiny hooks and sometimes sewing thread.
At the moment I’m really hung up on Sapmi Bead Cord, using tiny seed beads.
Otherwise I’m always in to tiny crocheting, tiny hooks and thread (sometimes sewing thread). Sizing down patterns this way is my thing.
I have recently been working on wine bottle covers and beer cozies. But I haven’t found a lot of patterns online for them outside of the ones made for Christmas. I also love using very old patterns for doilies as they have been made in the 1800’s.
Lately I have been doing a lot of Baptism/Confirmation afghans for babies. I’d like to crochet a wedding dress and then some dresses for babies, too.
Doing loads of bags and hats/various types and sizes for school summer fun day sale, to raise money for the School. Thinkin of doing alot more and selling them on say etsy . . . calling myself ‘batty hags’ for the hats and bag thing
Have made loads of wonderful garments, esp from patterns off ‘garnstudio’
luv’n'hooks xx
Kath Fackrell (Shropshire UK)
remember . . . dc’s are just trebles in disguise !!
Very interested in learning more about (sewing) thread crochet and finding some interesting patterns that go beyond doilies.
Wish your poll had included crocheting for charity.
Nice to meet you, Amy! I was pleased to see the joining of crochet with mathematics. What we are is textile engineers. Looking forward to participating in the crochet site with you.
Best,
VJ
at the moment i am making covers for the sweepers…had to quit making potholders and dish cloths…couldnt shut the kitchen drawers..i am interested in finding pineapple tablecloth patterns
Welcome Amy! Crocheting and knitting prayer shawls and afghans are my passion therefore I’m always interested in a new pattern or stitch.
I have been making prayer shawls for months now and am interested in uncomplicated bags and totes.
I am also a fan of tunisian crochet, I make squares from all my odd ends – for throws, bags and cushions. I have also made waistcoats. I make my own tunisian and crochenit hooks by carving a hook in the ends of bamboo knitting needles.
I’m interested in jumbo-hook crochet; Broomstick crochet; making pretty shawls and wraps. Looking for tea cosy patterns.
I’m a beginner, having taught myself from diagrams over the last year.
Rosie (UK)
I am currently crocheting shrugs for hospital patients and afghans for Project Linus. I like to try different types of crochet, crochet with plastic bags, tapestry crochet and crochet with wire. My next is hairpin lace.
I am currently doing mostly knitting. I am also looking for some Victorian patterns as they were much more delicate looking and pretty especially the baby things. I have lost most of the old patterns I had and would love to replace some of them. My friend and I do swap some but that can only go so far till we both have all the same ones.
I would like to see more patterns that combine knit and crochet. Don’t know if you can do that here, though.
Always looking for more ways to use laceweight yarn.
I would like to see more home decor items. Pillows, edgings, containers, table toppers etc.
Generally I do afghans for charity. Now that it’s summer, my aim is a little lower, afghans for kids, especially for Linus Project. Just completed 3 pink bearghans (pattern from Chris Simon and Pat Liles at http://www.geocities.com/cdjsimon/bearghan.html) and one blue lap robe for a boy, 2 to go–gotta keep the balance.
Since I don’t like monotony or boredom, I’m looking for more patterns for kids. Or any afghan/blanket patterns for less-than-full size afghans, preferably about 48″.
I know, most afghans can be made to a smaller size, but a design especially for kids would be nice.
Got any good ideas?
Thanks for all your help.
Nita
I make many shawls and lapghans as part of a prayer shawl ministry. I am also interested in and want to learn more about the “how to’s” of tunisian – I love the look. I like small projects that don’t take a lot of time and are fairly easy because sometimes I just need instant gratification.
I like making kitchen accessories; particularly teapot cozies and potholders.
I would like to see more unique patterns done in a coffee theme or a purse/tote/bag theme with a victorian touch or a beach theme such as seashells, etc. for the kitchen. Tired of the plain squares or circles. I have lots of ideas unfortunately, I am not a designer. LOL
Like you, I’ve been crocheting since childhood– about 50 years now! When I started, I made mainly snakes and snails, in slip st…. Granny square whatevers in hs and early college– then branched out to clothing. At that point, I “discovered” that a guage swatch was not sufficient for determining fit… that yarn s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s… a lot!
Now, I like both “interesting”, complicated stitch patterns, like some doilies, converted to clothing (a la Cindy Kamp, Doris Chan), as well as simpler patterns that can use up my stash of novelty yarns. Currently, I also am trying to find/make samples of “bazaar crafts that sell for more than the cost of materials” (for our temple fundraisers)– the goal being to develop something that 1) sells, and 2)is fairly easy to teach to seniors (eyesight and arthritis problems) and kids (”it’s not a video game” problems).
I love crocheting Tablecloth, lace ,filet, and really old or antique patterns.
I love free form crochet, and making exquisite combinations of color.
I am interested in all types of crochet. What I would like to find are pillow cases that you can embroider and crochet an edging. I haven’t been able to find the pillow cases with the holes already punched in for the crochet edging. I would also like to see more patterns done with hairpin lace and broomstick lace. Maybe some ideas for projects with left over yarn would be interesting.
I enjoy making decorative items for the seasons for my home
I am interested in the Pink Breast Cancer projects. I make the pink ribbon to sell and raise money for fighting breast cancer. I would like to find other similar projects to make to sell besides the ribbon.
I am always looking for small one day or so projects to sell at
festivals or give as gifts. I am on a limited budget and quick project work out best for me.
I love baby hats etc. scarves and usually small things. I want to crochet an easy baby blanket with a simple pattern and not too holey. Love your site.
I am a returning Crocheter. It’s been years since I made anything. I go to the library to get books about crochet.
Right now I’m working on a book cover.
I have a pattern for a “plastic bag dispenser” and I am so lost on this pattern. I would love an easy pattern for a plastic bag dispenser.
I am very interested in making tote bags, purses, and the like. I’m not a great crocheter but I will try to teach myself.
I’m hoping I get alot of ideas from this website.
Easy things would be my starting point.
I love shawl patterns. I make prayer shawls for my church and always enjoy trying something new, especially using readily available and fairly inexpensive yarns.
Hi Amy,
I’m delighted to see that the site on About will be continuing, as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed visiting here for nigh on a year now. I’m looking forward to seeing all that will be forthcoming here. Thank you for becoming the guide of Crochet at About dot com.
stch
I enjoy making dishcloths. I also like to crochet small throw rugs.
I like # 7’s comment. Alternative Crochet I have saved sheets for years that are too worn to use as sheets. It would be nice to find something to do with them.
I also enjoy using older patterns either with updated instructions or materials. One of the things I like is finding patterns for sweaters which are not bulky yarn/hook based. I think my favorite pattern to make involves some creative stitching or yarn so the item doesn’t become boring.
Glad to have the newsletter back and look forward to the fun things ahead.
I checked “other” on the poll because I appreciate patterns for kitchen items – they make good shower gifts. Right now I am working on a baby afghan (my own design) and have 3 more to make before September! Baby boom!
i want to start doing diaper soakers!!!
I like to crochet with plastic bags and fabric.
Easy and unique like bearghan’s or cookie blankets, fun stuff.
I like fun, different, and unique crochet.
I have been crocheting since I was 10, and I
love it. I enjoy crocheting doilies, table
runners. I am looking for a tablecloth to
crochet for my diningroom table. I am crocheting a tablecloth for my sister in law
as a Christmas gift and when I am finished it
will measure 92″x55″.
I am so gald you decided to come om board! Especially since you have a full plate already! So thank you very much!!I really like to try anything that comes up. But one thing I have been looking for is, a long time ago when we would go to Catholic church we would have to cover our heads in spanish I think it is called a “mantilla” it was chrocheted at least some of them were, and they came in different colors. Would you or anyone else know anything about that?
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!!
I’m not a great crocheter, but I make kitty beds for shelters, and cats really seem to like them.
I am interested in scarf and hat patterns
I am always looking for slippers, especially small children/and older childen’s.. they are hard to find. I love the little boots and different designs. thank you so much I wondered where about.com went.
My mother had crocheted tons of hats, and now my daughter is making them for new babies.. it would be nice to get some different style patterns. thanks.
I enjoy making toppers for towels
I love Tunisian, tapestry and thread crochet. Love making Christmas ornaments, beginning but not ending with snowflakes!
I don’t like freeform (sorry) and don’t like toys for dogs, their teeth and nails can get caught too easily in yarns/threads.
I’d love to make things for men, since I have three grown sons, but items are hard to find that I like and think look good. I don’t want to make them something that they will either give away or put away somewhere that never sees the light of day.
And, of course, I love making baby things! I love toys too, from amigurami to regular sized toys.
i am looking for patterns for crocheting sweaters for a jack russel, can you halp me
I am constantly looking for crochet patterns for tablecloths using cotton handicrafter yarn [instead of thread]. I have made a couple for shower gifts and they have been a real hit! I am SO happy that your newsletter/column is back!
I have a crochet book Glorious Crocheted Sweaters Edited by Nola Theiss, ISBN0-7153-9953-5.
Front relief treble and back relief treble, are stiches I have not worked before. Are you able to advise me how the stitches are worked or direct me to where I am able to find out about them. Thank you for this assistance.
I also like to crochet flowers and lace containers starched with sugar starch.
I did some free style work for the Hyperbolic Reef and it was accepted at the Birmingham NEC last October.
Tote bags–various sizes, like a lunch tote and for groceries, etc
I am currently into making baby sweaters and other items.
I love working with thinner yarn and with thread, but recently I’ve been hooked on amigurumi, and made a bunch of very cute little toys. I’d love to see more of those patterns, and also larger doily like pieces to be used as table cloth or table runners.
I am really intersted in learning filet crochet. Any ideas where to start.
Currently I’m really into thread, just love it. But I really enjoy anything but doll clothes.
I’d like to find heavy and light weather sweaters for plus-sized women (specifically 3-4X)
I think my main interest in crochet has become creating one-of-kind doilies. I learned to crochet at 5 years old and recently I discovered I can crochet different doilies WITHOUT a pattern. A couple of years ago I experimented with jute twine and crocheted a doormat then used the technique you are experimenting with and “embroidered” a design with flowers on the little rug. I find creating original designs much more rewarding than just using a pattern all the time.
I’ve been crocheting about 5 years, mostly afghans. I would love to do a sweater or vest, but I’d need very simple, easy to follow directions. With pictures!
I am a senior on a very low income.
Free patterns are very important to me.
I really love the ones that use scrap yarn.
As like many above – thank you for taking on this role and for soliciting our comments.
* Supplies – the unusual, but also the affordable.
* Techniques – everything from stitch patterns (i turn these into afghan squares or trim) – to stitch properties (front loop stitches rule!)- to patterns tips/techniques (multiple ways to increase the bust portion of a top) – to how to make closures or reinforce a bag with items handing around in your house
* Tunisian stitches and projects – please! with pictures!
I’m really interestested in wet felting – and I crochet everything I felt. I’ve also been working on some filet crochet projects. I think one skein projects would be of interest to folks like me that need to clean out the stash of leftovers from time to time. I make christmas ornaments each year – nothing too cutsie – and last year I made some felted balls. Projects like that are interesting. Finally, I use this site as a source of advanced stitches when I come across something I don’t know. good luck with the site!
I am interested in bracelets, necklaces, beeded fringe on clothing and purses. Also free form crocheting but I think it is very confusing to plan the layout.
I’m interested in assorites for the home, ie. kitchen, bathroom, ect.
Besides doilies which I checked, I’m also interested in other thread crochet items. As for yarn, kitchen items such as potholders & hot pads.
I am just learning to do Tunisian crochet,it is reallly a different and interesting stitch.
Welcome!
I’ve been crocheting since I was 7; I’m 47 now. So I’m coming from the perspective of someone who has gone through a lot of phases in crochet (the doiley years, the afghan years, the potholder years… you get the picture, LOL)
I am interested in learning obscure stitches.
I am interested in “innovative” patterns. Anything that isn’t the ’same old thing’. Especially women’s tops that are actually fashionable, vs. yard-sale dorky.
Also any innovative crochet jewelry, purses… and patterns that utilize beads and sequins. Working with wire or cutting-edge mediums a plus.
Thanks for the opportunity to give input!
I love making afghans from graphs. So far I had to come up with my own patterns. I would like to know how to calculate the finished size of the afghan when I plot it out on a graph.
Currently working on yoga matt covers, women hats and scarves and men’s beanies and dredlock hats. I have created lighter covers out of ribbon yarn, selling like crazy. Am concentrating on heirloom bibs for babies, adult style hats for kids and the cutest kid slippers ever. All are original and unique. Was out of work for months so I got busy making a crochet line and selling them at stores and shows.
I like patterns for discloths and scrubbies!
Using up SCRAPS & ODD LEFTOVERS is what I want to figure out. There has to be more than just granny square things to make!
I am in terested in minature crochet, particularly flowers works in tatting cotton size 80.
right now it is making Prayer Shawls
My grandma taught me to crochet very young. I do not remember not knowing how. Right now I am doing an afghan and a tablecloth. I picked up knitting as an adult and mainly do dishcloths now. I also quilt, so I do keep busy!
I love making scarves and hats. I am also interested in learning the Tunisian stitch.
I like doing kitchen accessories, such as potholders and placemats, and doilies. I also like making sweaters, but would like to know how to make them fit better, as my hips are much larger than my bust, and my shoulders are very narrow. More men’s gift items would be good, too.
I don’t really like making afghans, as they take too much yarn and take too long to make.
Affordable yarns and no-dye lot yarns are good, as I don’t like to spend more on yarn for an unmade sweater than I would pay for a ready to wear one.
I am a returning crocheter having learned when I was five. I am a lover of all kinds and colors of threads and yarns. I find it hard to read patterns and would like to see some instructions on using patterns.
I’m crocheting plastic bags
Thanks for the note Amy. I signed up at About Crochet a long time ago, and this is the first email. My “Other” would be (i know it’s boring) dishcloths, cozies for kitchen toasters etc. . I enjoy doing the discloths because they’re easy to do in a small amount of time. At one time I did about 20 of them for favors at a reunion. It was fun and appreciated. Thanks again, Ellen
I love embellishing my work. So flowers, leaves and cute things for kids would be great. I also like useful things for the house too.
I’m really into small projects. I love making jewelry with crocheted components.
I have to really really love the look of a big project if I ever want to finish making it. I get easily bored with repetitive stitches.
It was fun reading other crocheters’ views on this… Thanks everyone for sharing!
I am presently repairing an antique bedspread and two cotton doilies. I like the challenge of figuring out how to make the repairs as invisible as possible. Also, I enjoy working with my knit-crochet group as we learn together.
I am looking for patterns for girls age 10-12 for crochetknit. It is also hard to find the double-ended hook.
Boys patterns also, besides caps or scarfs.
I’d like to see more lightweight patterns, i.e., summer sweaters using sportweight (#3) yarn instead of worsted weight (#4). Also more of the smaller sizes.
I do a lot of crocheting of different things. Right now I am into making myself a couple of tops,( I don’t usually crohet for myself.) I do a lot of projects for cancer patients and for premmy babies. If I see a pattern that I think someone would like I often stop what I am doing and start that pattern. I have really liked the newsletters in the past and I am sure that I will in the future.
I enjoy working with thread. I am making a tablecloth now, my fisrt but it will not be my last. I belone to a group that makes baby blankets for teenage crisis center in town. I make a lot of afghans too. I am confimed to a wheel chair so I crochet a lot to pass the time. Mary
I’d like to see plus size patterns forgirls and women
I am currently making dish cloths.
very interested in jewelry right now, especially earring!
My boyfriend and I are planning on moving into our first home soon so I have been busy making misc. things for around the home. I also plan to make bags for grocery shopping.
I really love to make shawls (triangular) I hope you can include some easy ones (not an expert though, but pretty good at following instructions)
Thanks for your page
Since I’m the librarian for our Crochet Guild, I have access to thousands of patterns. Afghans are my least favorite and no one in the Guild requests those except for difficult patterns. I’d like a tutorial on fitting and seaming crocheted clothes since those will be my next projects.
Crocheting is my favorite pastime. My husband was just making the comment the other day about all my stash. Also, he says, before I get one finished, I get excited about another one and start it. He is very supportive. I look forward to the time I can just sit and crochet. Love It!!
I LOVE making bags! And I’d love to see more things for boys.
I like to knit and crochet various acessories and embellishments. I am currently working on knitted bows and would love to find a crochet one.
As well as some of the things mentioned in the poll that you have, I am currently involved in making prayer shawls. I am always looking for new patterns to do and to pass on to others in my group who do not necessarily have access to the internet.
Thanks!
Jen
I am so happy to see the Crochet Newsletter again! Thanks so much! I am really interested in trying a Rug – I’ve made loads of afghans and baby things, but never a rug.
Right now I’m crocheting Covers for Pitchers – they look lovely filled with an icy drink and covered with a beaded doiley!
I am making plastic bag holders, large grocery bags and beach bags from recycled plastoc gricery bags.
Crochet Boots! Mukluks or just any tall boot with a sole!
i am really interested in table runners. Especially dragonflys
