Time!! I have scores of patterns, miles of yarn and thread and sufficient hooks, but with a husband, a 2 year old with allergies and a 4 year old what I really need is the TIME to make use of my crochet stuff.

(5) LI Roe says:

I also like gift cards to my craft stores. I wait till there are sales and then get even more for the money. I am lucky if they last a month, I use them fast.

(6) BarbH says:

I checked off Pattern Books. I have requested a specific book to learn how to do Entrelac with Single Crochet. Otherwise gift cards are wonderful because I usually do need some kind of craft item to complete a project =)

(7) Joyce says:

I have asked for a yarn ball winder as a gift from my son. This has nearly driven him to distraction trying to locate one for me, but, hey, that’s what I want.

(8) Bethel of Bethania says:

I always think a gift voucher is the best either at a yarn shop, book shop or a internet shop… we are all quite particular with what we like & don’t like…
I for one am sick of receiving stuff that has been given, with the best of intentions, but is certainly nothing like I’d buy…

November 16, 2009 at 11:35 pm
(9) Pat says:

I think gift cards to stores that sell yarn and needlework items is always great. You can hold on to them for sales and optimize what you use them for.

November 16, 2009 at 11:43 pm
(10) Sherry Clark says:

I like receiving a kit which includes the yarn and pattern. That way I usually have everything needed to complete a project. If it requires stitches I don’t know then I have a reason to learn them. I prefer a large wrapped gift I can open and start enjoying!

Gift cards to my favorite on line stores are perfect for both my husband and me. The reson being is that it relieves my husband of the stress of trying to figure out what I want and it lets me shop on line for what I want and/or need.

(13) Norma Jean says:

A gift card would be great. I could us a book with instructions for lots of stitches and patterns to go with.

November 17, 2009 at 2:26 am
(14) Barbara says:

Gift cards are always wonderful. Specific pattern books and subscriptions to crochet magazines.

November 17, 2009 at 2:53 am
(15) Roz says:

Gift cards wouldn’t be much use to me as the online shops I buy my threads from don’t have them. Mind you peeps know exactly what type of threads I like – all of ‘em. :)

No honest, one can never have too many threads, especially for my type of work. I use everything from one strand of six strand embroidery cotton up to something akin to DMC 80’s tatting cotton, and all points in between.

My favourite threads to crochet with are the Venne threads from Holland, wonderful for mini knitting too. I’m also more than fond of the Madeira threads for crochet.

What i want are old wooden crochet hooks, or old handmade projects that show the origans of crochet.

November 17, 2009 at 7:50 am
(19) Barbara says:

Something I would not buy for myself- a yarn swift, a pom-pom maker – something I could definitely live without.

November 17, 2009 at 8:10 am
(20) Sandie says:

I asked for a pretty female mannequin head to use to display crocheted hats. I collect hooks and like different types of hooks, particularly with a theme, like lighthouses, for example. More expensive yarns that I wouldn’t purchase for myself would be a good gift. Those little things that I always mean to get but never do – like yarn bras, for example. Sheet protectors for the patterns I print and plan to make, but it takes me a while to get to them. :-) One year I got a yarn tree which I love! Bins to store yarn would be good too, the ones like they use in stores that fit against the wall and stack up or are put together like a shadow box but deeper. If the bins are too large, the yarn just gets all messed up. A bin filled with craft supplies would be excellent! :-)

(23) carol barfield says:

What I would love is a susan bates pom-pom maker like I bought back in the seventys. It was 3to 3 1/2
inches wide and very flat. someone found me one the other day that was fair but the coloring from it dis colored the pom-pom for my little hat. and wasn’t quite large enough. And any kind of neew wood needles would be great. Oh how I would love some.

November 17, 2009 at 1:12 pm
(24) Mary says:

I would also like a loom for knitting – I do all crochet but want to incorporate some knitting and do free form design

I think gift cards to the local craft store is the best gift to give someone who loves to craft. Or a spa gift card so she can get away for a day and rest those pretty little hands!

(30) John Hablinski says:

I find it a very disappointing when there is a presumption by a company, or organization, that only women crochet. You know, in today’s world this might be construed and litigated as gender discrimination.

November 18, 2009 at 1:24 pm
(31) Ada says:

I have crocheted since I was five and I have yet to find a craft table that tilts down (like an old writing table). It would be a lot easier to crochet afgans, tablecloths and bedspreads if there were a way to support the accumulated weight of the project! :)

November 19, 2009 at 5:47 am
(32) Sharon Long says:

My husband won’t give gift cards, he says it’s too easy. So every year I make a detailed list so he has a selection of things to buy, and from that he usually comes up with something I love that isn’t even on the list. Last year I was asking for specific crochet books and he bought me “The Crochet Answer Book”. I love it! I didn’t even know it existed and yet it was the perfect choice. I have crocheted for years but only this last year did I start using patterns and there is so much I don’t know. I used to just make afghans and dish cloths, now I make purses, totes, clothes, etc! So him buying me that book was an excellent choice. A good detailed list goes a long way!

(33) NanaSue says:

I need a better storage system for all the yarn I have. Right now they’re just in plastic bags, but I can’t see the whole collection so I end up buying more of what I already have cause I couldn’t find it. Got any ideas?

November 22, 2009 at 3:52 pm

(38) Karen says:

I want a hand made rosewood crochet hook, size G, my favorite in a velvet bag with a beaded, tasseled tie. I’ve been crocheting for 56 years and still have the first hook I bought for 10 cents and the bone hook my grandma gave me. My Mom said I couldn’t learn to crochet because I was left handed. I got a book from the library on crochet and taught myself. I’ve never had a problem making the translation in my head, but I can’t teach right handers, it’s so backwards.
