Dollar Store Towel With Crocheted Edging - Photo © Amy SolovayIf you invest enough time in crochet to get good at it, you'll be richly rewarded in many ways. One of my favorites: crochet gives you a means for making many everyday items look much more special -- for cheap!
The hand towel you see pictured is one example of this. Would you have guessed that I bought this towel at the dollar store? I did! But it didn't look like this when I bought it. I took the plain dollar store towel and then added some crocheted trim along the lower edge to get the look that you see pictured.
For those of you on a tight budget, the dollar store is a great place to stock up on crochet supplies and craft supplies. You never know what you'll find; sometimes you can even find good yarn for only a buck a ball!
I find that the dollar store is also a great place to get ideas for what I want to make next. I came up with the ideas for bunches of my projects when I was just looking around at different things for sale at the dollar store. The towel pictured here is one example, but I've posted a list of my dollar store projects here on our website:
Dollar Store Crafts
I hope you'll find the list helpful and inspiring. And if you shop at the dollar store too, I hope you'll also find lots of worthwhile ideas and supplies there.

What a great project for those dollar store hand towels!
I’ve printed it off and am going to give this a try. Between housewarmings, weddings, and graduations, I’ve got quite a list of gifts wanting prepared and these towels do fit the bill. I live in the UK now and luckily we have ‘pound stores’ here that carry the same sort of things as the US dollar stores-I’m sure I’ll find lovely towels that can be made much lovelier with these edgings.
Thank-you!
