I'm going to ask you to use your imagination for a moment.
No really, I mean, are you ready?
OK. While your imagination is busy getting warmed up, let me give you a little background info. My husband and I live aboard a sailboat, and we're often in a different place every couple of weeks or so.
Gadgets and salt water don't mix well, so, we don't do gadgets. Well, not much.
We're not into phones, and that's an understatement. Unless you have a sat phone, it isn't like you can call anyone from the middle of the ocean. You know what I mean? Talk about a "dead zone." For realz!
And really, when we're in the middle of the ocean, calling people is the last thing we feel like doing.
All this to tell you that I do not have a cool phone.
And I don't even know how to text. So, please don't bother sending me a text message. I have no idea how to read one, and I don't know how to respond.
But, I do have some pretty cool crochet patterns for texting gloves to share with you.
OK, so here's the part where you have to fire up your imagination.
In the photo below, I'm holding an el-cheapo pay-as-you-go-phone. I'm going to ask you to imagine that I'm holding a nice Blackberry, or iPhone, or whatever a cool phone is these days.
I'm also going to have to ask you to imagine that I know how to text. I don't, but your imagination can handle conjuring up a valid image of me texting -- can't it? I hope.
Better yet, why not imagine yourself wearing a pair of these gloves, enjoying the warmth at the same time you're also enjoying an SMS conversation with all your friends.
The thing is, these gloves are fantastic for people who enjoy texting and playing games and surfing the 'net on their phones. But they're also handy even for people like me who don't have a clue about texting.
Right about now would be a good time for me to mention that these gloves are ideal to use for many different things that have nothing to do with texting:
Petting your cat*:
* Or dog, or gerbil, or parakeet...
Unlocking the door:
And, you know, just generally living your life. Gloves like this are must-have accessories for students, teachers, moms, dads, sailors, musicians, and just about everybody else.
Want to make yourself a pair of these gloves? It's easy! So easy that even a total beginner to crochet could do it. I invite you to give the pattern a try.
