Crochet isn't only about scarves and hats -- although scarves and hats are fantastic projects, and I do love making them. One can only wear so many scarves and hats, and once you have about a zillion of those completed, it's time to look around at other types of projects to crochet.

I'm a big fan of working crochet into other types of craft projects -- and sometimes where you'd least expect it.

Let's take this pretty Valentine's Day arrangement as one example. This is a project that you can enjoy even if you don't have a "significant other" in your life on Valentine's Day. It's great if you do, but this is a project that can also be shared with co-workers, colleagues, friends, and family.

"But Amy, where's the crochet here?" you might ask. Great question!

In the arrangement pictured, the flowers and heart-shaped lollipops are arranged in a block of craft foam. The crochet is covering the block of foam. I've designed a craft foam block cover pattern which you can use and re-use for bunches of different projects. Any time you might want to cover up a styrofoam block, you can use this pattern to do it. This is one idea for using it, but I am sure you can think of many others. For more ideas, you're invited to visit the project gallery.

The crafting here is super-simple to do, and aside from the yarn used, the project is made using dollar store craft supplies. So the project is both easy and affordable.

If you like it, I hope you'll give it a try. If it's not quite what you're looking for right now, please visit our list of free crochet patterns to find thousands of different project ideas. We have bunches more Valentine patterns, bunches of holiday patterns, and patterns for just about any other type of project you could think of.
