How to Do a Filet Lacet Fancy Mesh
From your Crochet Guide

Instructions for crocheting a lacet, sometimes called fancy mesh, which is used in some filet crochet designs. Learn how to start a new row where the lacet is the first square on the chart.

Difficulty Level: Easy    Time Required: 5 minutes

Here's How:
  1. When a lacet is the first square in a row on the chart, make it this way (includes the turning chain): chain 6, skip next 2 stitches or chains, single crochet in next stitch or chain, chain 3, skip next 2 stitches or chains, double crochet in next double crochet.
  2. For additional lacets in a row, make each one this way: chain 3, skip next 2 stitches or chains, single crochet in next stitch or chain, chain 3, skip next 2 stitches or chains, double crochet in next stitch or chain.
  3. On the next row, the square above the lacet will be a long mesh. For a long mesh which is the first square in a row on a chart, see step 4. For additional long mesh worked within the row, see step 5.
  4. A long mesh which is the first square in a row on a chart is made this way (includes the turning chain): chain 8, skip first lacet, double crochet in next double crochet.
  5. Additional long mesh worked within the row are each made like this: chain 5, skip next lacet, double crochet in next double crochet.

Tips:

  1. Many charts are worked in filet crochet in solid and open mesh only, with no lacets. You can insert lacets within a design, wherever you choose to, by substituting a lacet for two open or solid mesh squares on the chart.
