Materials

Worsted-weight yarn
Size G crochet hook

Finished size: 8" square

Guage: 3 1/2 sc stitches = 1" wide; 4 sc rows = 1"

Directions

Note: For each knot stitch in this pattern, you will make the first loop equal to about the width of two stitches (or about 1/2 inch).

Chain 26.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea sc across. (25 sc)
Row 2: sc in ea sc across.
Row 3: ch 1, sc in first 5 sc (work 2 knot stitches, with ea knot stitch having a loop about 1/2" long, skip next 5 sc, sc in next 5 sc) twice.
Row 4: ch 3 (counts as first treble), tr in next 4 sc, (work knot stitch, next between the 2 knot stitches of previous row: sc in the closing loop of the first knot stitch directly below; work knot stitch, tr in next 5 sc) twice.
Row 5: ch 1, sc in first 5 tr (ch 5, skip knot stitches, sc in next 5 tr) twice.
Row 6: ch 1, sc in first 5 sc, (5 sc in ch 5 space, sc in next 5 sc) twice.
Row 7: ch 1, sc in first 10 sc, work 2 knot stitches, skip next 5 sc, sc in last 10 sc.
Row 8: ch 3 (counts as first tr), tr in next 9 sc, work knot st; between 2 knot sts of previous row: sc in closing loop of first knot st directly below; work knot st, tr in last 10 sc.
Row 9: ch 1, sc in 10 tr, ch 5, skip knot sts, sc in 10 tr.
Row 10: ch 1, sc in 10 sc, 5 sc in ch-5 space, sc in 10 sc.
Rows 11 - 14: Repeat rows 3 - 6.
Rows 15 - 18: Repeat rows 7 - 10.
Row 19: sc in ea sc across.

Work a round of single crochet completely around all four edges of the square. End off.
