One Tier Rose Motif With Ties

This pattern for a rose motif has just two rounds, with ties to attach it to other crocheted items for a quick decorative accent. The photo above shows the rose attached to a crocheted wristlet, with the rose made in the same color, for a subtle accent.

Materials Used In This Example: Coats and Clarks Aunt Lydia's size 10 cotton thread - approximately 60 yards for one wristlet.
Color - No. 928 Oasis (a multicolor of blue, green, white and beige)
US size 8 steel hook

Rose Finished Size: about 1 inch in diameter, at widest point

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
ea = each
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space

How To Slip Stitch (sl st) = Insert hook in stitch, wrap yarn over hook, pull yarn through the stitch and through the loop on the hook, at the same time. A slip stitch does not add any height and is used to join a chain or stitch to another place in the crochet piece.

To Begin: Chain 4, sl st in first ch to join into a ring.
Rnd 1: ch 5, (dc in ring, ch 3) 5 times, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-5.
Rnd 2: for first tie - ch 40, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in ea of next 39 chains, sl st back in stitch at base of chain-40. Now continue with the round: sl st in first ch-3 sp, (sc, 3 dc, sc, sl st) all in same ch-3 sp, * sl st in next ch-3 sp, (sc, 3 dc, sc, sl st) all in same ch-3 sp **, repeat the directions between * and ** 1 more time. For second tie - ch 40, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in ea of next 39 chains, sl st back in stitch at base of chain-40. Then repeat the directions between * and ** 3 more times.

When finished, end off. Weave in ends.

To attach the rose to a crocheted item, thread the tie on a large-eye needle to pull the tie through the stitches to the back of the crocheted piece (or simply push the tie through if the stitches are loose enough to do that). Tie the two ends on the back of the crocheted piece or, for a different look, pull the ties back through to the front through the center of the rose motif and tie in a knot or a bow, in the center of the rose.
