Free Pattern for Simple Crochet Slippers

How to Crochet Simple Slippers
Mollie Johanson
Project Overview
  • Skill Level: Beginner

Free crochet slipper patterns come in all shapes and sizes, but there may be none quite as easy as this. To crochet these adult slippers, you only need to know basic techniques. Single crochet stitches and simple shaping do all the work to make cute and comfortable sock-like slippers.

You should be familiar with working both in rounds and flat in rows to complete these crochet slippers. Of course, people of all skill levels will enjoy working on these. They aren't just for beginners, but beginners will love them.

You may use any smooth worsted weight fiber, but may prefer a machine washable yarn for easy cleaning. The slippers are worked at 4 sts per inch for a firm, dense fabric.

  2. Toe Gusset Increases

Work around the toe, increasing four stitches at each end, to create toe gussets on each end.

Rnd 1: ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, sc in next 5 (7, 9, 11) sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 (7, 9, 11) sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in last st, sl st to beg ch to join rnd—20 (24, 28, 32) sc.

Rnd 2: ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, sc in next 7 (9, 11, 13) sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 (9, 11, 13) sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in last st, sl st to beg ch to join—24 (28, 32, 36) sc.

  3. Toe Box

  4. Divide for Midfoot

You will now begin working flat in rows for the midfoot.

Do not ch; sc in next 4 (4, 5, 5) sts, turn.

Next row: ch 1, sc in next 22 (24, 28, 30) sts, turn.

Rep last row until foot measures 8-3/4 (9-3/4, 10-3/4, 10-3/4) inches from toe, or 1/4 inch less than desired foot length.

  5. Heel Flap

The rectangular heel section will be folded up and sewn to the sides of the midfoot later.

    Ch 1, sc in next 15 (16, 19, 20) sts, turn.

Next row: ch 1, sc in next 8 (8, 10, 10) sts, turn.

Rep last row for 1-1/4 (1-1/4, 2, 2) inches, or until the flap is tall enough to meet sides of midfoot when folded.

    Decrease row: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 4 (4, 6, 6) sts, sc2tog—6 (6, 8, 8) sc.

    Fasten off.

  6. Assembly

Assemble the crochet slippers into the correct shape by closing up the back of the slipper.

Cut 12 inch length of yarn; thread onto yarn or tapestry needle. Fold heel flap up to close the back of the bootie. Sew edges of the flap in place using whipstitch or your own favorite method. Fasten off.

  7. Finishing

Join the working yarn to the crochet slipper opening at center back of the heel.

    Rnd 1: work 60 (66, 72, 74) sc evenly spaced around.

    Tip

To space stitches evenly, place removable markers every inch or two. Use the formula of 4 sts per inch to help you space your stitches evenly between markers.

Rnd 2: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in every st to last 2 sts, sc2tog, sl st to beg ch to join—58 (64, 70, 72) sc sts.

Rnd 3: ch 1, sc in every st to end of rnd, sl st to beg ch to join.

Try on slipper. Rep Rnd 2 if necessary for a custom fit.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Make second slipper, same as the first.
