How To Do The Star Stitch Crochet Tutorial

Following is a step-by-step photo how-to for working the star stitch. You'll sometimes find this stitch called a marguerite or a spiked cluster.

Stars can be made up of a varying number of spikes. These directions are for making a star with 5 spikes.

How to make the first star:

Make a chain of length desired.

Draw up a loop in the 2nd chain from the hook,

draw up a loop in each of the next 4 chains,

draw loop through all 6 loops on hook,

make a chain to close the star.

Working the 2nd star and any additional stars:

Insert hook into the loop that closed the previous star,

wrap the yarn around the hook and draw this loop through,

draw up a loop in the same place where the previous star finished,

draw up a loop in each of the next 3 stitches,

draw a loop through all 6 loops on the hook,

make a chain to close the star.
