Directions are for a hat of 22" headsize.
CROCHET ABBREVIATIONS
ch . . . chain
sc . . Single Crochet
dc . . Double Crochet
st . . . Stitch
sts . . Stitches
sl st .. Slip Stitch
STITCH:
Use Single Crochet and Double Crochet throughout.
Note: Instructions specify "picking up remaining
loop in odd row previous". For example, in working
5th row pick up remaining loop of 3rd row.
Follow this example throughout.
TO START:
Ch 6 and join with sl st to form ring.
Row 1: Ch 2, make 8 dc in ring, join with sl st to ch-2 at start.
Row 2: Make 1 sc in each st of previous row picking up front loop only.
Row 3: Ch 2, work with dc's picking up remaining loop in 1st row
(odd row previous, see note under "Stitch") and make 8 increases in row,
join with sl st to ch-2 at start.
Row 4: Work same as 2nd row.
Row 5: Work same as 3rd row but make 17 increases in row.
Row 6: Work same as 2nd row.
Row 7: Work same as 3rd row but make 6 increases in row.
Row 8: Work same as 2nd row.
Row 9: Work same as 3rd row but make 8 increases in row.
Row 10: Work same as 2nd row.
Row 11: Work same as 3rd row but make 10 increases in row.
Row 12: Work same as 2nd row.
Row 13: Work same as 3rd row but make 13 increases in row.
Row 14: Work same as 2nd row.
Row 15: Work same as 13th row.
Row 16: Work same as 2nd row.

Rows 36 - 38: Make 1 sc in each st of previous row picking up both loops.
Row 39: Make 1 sl st in each st of previous row picking up both loops.
End off.
TRIMMING: Optional Ch 180. Fold in half and
twist. Tack on hat as illustrated.
