This chart can be useful for filet crochet, crocheting with color changes (intarsia) or for cross-stitch.
If working the chart in filet crochet, the starting chain is 91 chains for a 4-dc mesh or 63 chains for a 3-dc mesh. In either case, begin with a dc in the 5th chain from the hook.

US size H hook
Finished Size: When made with these materials, in a 3-dc mesh, finished size is about 15 3/4 inches square.
Abbreviations: ch = chain, dc = double crochet, ea = each, sp = space
Directions for the first few rows to get you started:
Starting Chain: chain 63.
Row 1: (followed right to left on chart), dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in ea ch across.
Row 2: (followed left to right on chart), ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ea of next 2 dc,
(ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc) 3 times, dc in ea of next 2 dc, (ch 1, skip next dc,
dc in next dc) 19 times, dc in ea of next 2 dc, (ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc) 3 times,
dc in ea of last 2 dc.
Row 3: (followed right to left on chart), ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ea of next 2 dc,
(ch 1, skip next ch-1, dc in next dc) twice, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc,
ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1, dc in next dc,
dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc,
(ch 1, skip next ch-1, dc in next dc) 7 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc,
(ch 1, skip next ch-1, dc in next dc) 7 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc,
ch 1, skip next ch-1, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc,
dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc,
(ch 1, skip next ch-1, dc in next dc) twice, dc in ea of last 2 dc.
Continue, following chart, in 3-dc mesh:
Begin each row with a chain 3 for the first stitch (counts as the first dc of the row).
On chart, white square = ch 1, skip next stitch, dc in next stitch (makes an open mesh, which is a hole in the crocheted piece).
On chart, black square = dc in next dc (or in next chain-1 space, whichever happens to be next),
dc in next dc (this makes a solid mesh, which is a filled in area on the crocheted piece).
