Long SC Laces Face Cloth Crochet Pattern

Materials Used In The Example: About 1 3/4 oz. worsted weight soft cotton yarn
(I used Bernat Handicrafter Ultrasoft Cotton yarn), US size H hook
Finished Size: About 9 1/4 inches wide
Gauge: 4 sc rows = 1 inch, 6 1/2 sc = 2 inches
Note that gauge is not crucial to this project.
Abbreviations: ch = chain, ea = each, sc = single crochet,
sl st = slip stitch, sp = space
How To Slip Stitch (sl st) = Insert hook in stitch, wrap yarn over hook, pull yarn
through the stitch and through the loop on the hook, at the same time.

slsc = sideways long single crochet: Insert hook through the ch-1 space that is
3 stitches back, in row below, then yarn over hook, draw up a long loop that will reach
over to the next sc to be worked in the current row, insert the hook in that sc, yarn over
the hook, draw the yarn through the sc, yarn over the hook, draw the yarn through
all 3 loops on the hook to complete as an sc.
Starting Chain: chain 33.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea ch across. (32 sc)
Row 2: ch 1 to turn, sc in back loop only of ea of first 2 sc, * sc in both loops
of ea of next 3 sc, ch 1, skip next sc, sc in back loop only of ea of next 3 sc,
ch 1, skip next sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 2 more times, then sc
in both loops of ea of next 3 sc, ch 1, skip next sc, sc in back loop only of ea of last 2
sc.
Row 3: (slsc directions are above), ch 1 to turn, sc in back loop only of ea of first 2 sc, * sc in ch-1 sp,
sc in both loops of ea of next 2 sc, work the slsc, sc in ch-1 sp,
sc in back loops only of ea of next 2 sc, work the slsc **, repeat the directions
between * and ** 2 more times, then sc in ch-1 sp,
sc in both loops of ea of next 2 sc, work the slsc.
Finish the row with an sc in back loop only of ea of last 2 sc.
Row 4: ch 1 to turn, sc in back loop only of ea of first 2 sc, * sc in both loops of ea
of next 4 sc, sc in back loops only of ea of next 4 sc **, repeat the directions
between * and ** 2 more times, then sc in both loops of ea of next 4 sc,
sc in back loop only of ea of last 2 sc.
Row 5: Repeat row 4.
Additional Rows: Repeat rows 2 - 5, six more times to reach a height of
about 9 inches.
Last Row: ch 1 to turn, sc in ea sc across. (32 sc)
Finishing: ch 1 to turn, sl st in ea sc across.
End off. Weave in ends.
Finishing Other Edge: Attach yarn in first stitch of row 1.
