From crochet.about.com - Triple Ring Vintage Ornament With Tassel
This vintage decoration is quick to make. If you wanted to make it fancier, you could add a tiny charm, decorative button or some other small ornament, (with each on a short length of thread that's sewn to the top of a ring) so that each is dangling from the center of one of the rings.
Materials -
Thread:
Crochet cotton thread (no size given in the 1914 pattern -
use thread size of your choice).
Hook: No hook size given in the 1914
pattern - use a hook size to correspond with the size thread that
you have chosen to use (for example, a size 8 steel hook is
commonly used with size 10 crochet thread).
Rings: The 1914 pattern used (3) 1-inch brass rings
(you could substitute plastic cabone rings)
![]() |
Rings: Make 43 single crochet around each ring (this is the amount stated in the
1914 pattern. Adjust the number of single crochet stitches made according
to the size of thread you are using). Join rings as indicated in photo.
How to crochet around a ring: http://crochet.about.com/library/bl_crochet_around_ring.htm How To Make The Tassel (all one color thread or in multiple colors) Cut a piece of cardboard to twice the length you want the tassels to be. Wind thread number of times around the cardboard until you have the fullness desired, slip off, double it over and tie tightly one-fourth inch from the fold, for head of tassel and clip the ends. |

Photo from Old and New Designs in Crochet Work, from the year 1914
Pattern was originally printed in Old and New Designs in Crochet Work by Sophie T. La Croix, in the year 1914 (the original version of this pattern is now in the public domain). In the version on this page, I added many comments to the original vintage directions. -- Sandi Marshall
