Instructions For Easy Shell Narrow Edging
This edging pattern is based on a drawing of a crocheted edging in an 1899 publication. This is a variation; I wrote these directions from looking at the stitches in the 1899 drawing. -- Sandi Marshall
Materials: Use thread size or yarn weight of your choice. If you're not sure what hook size to use with what size thread, see the link named "Hook Size Matched To Thread Size" on my Info/Hints/Charts links page.
Idea of Finished Size: When made with size 10 thread and a size 8 steel hook, edging is about 5/8 inch wide, at widest point.
Starting Chain: Make a starting chain of length needed.
Row 1: Dc in 9th chain from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch, repeat from * across. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 8 dc in same st as ch-3 just made, * skip ch-2, skip dc, skip ch-2, 9 dc in next dc, repeat from * to end of row.
End off.
