Sew this to the top edge of a tank top or sundress. Example is made with size 50 thread. If you'd rather crochet with a thicker thread, I'd suggest beginning the chart at the arrow and deciding how much more you would need to add for the back once you've worked the chart from arrow to center and back to arrow. Also keep in mind that the thicker the thread, the wider your edging will be. The shoulder straps done in a much thicker thread may be too wide for straps and, in that case, you may want to use a plain open mesh, adjusting to the number of mesh across you will need for the width of strap you'd like to have. Another option would be to use satin ribbon for the straps, instead of crocheted straps. |

Materials Example is made with size 50 cotton thread.
No finished size stated in original directions. However, it's
the type of pattern that's easy to adjust for size needed.
For shoulder strap, chain 48, which will be 14 open mesh, working first double crochet in the 8th chain from hook. Open areas on chart indicate spaces to weave ribbon through. To make one of these spaces, chain 29, skip 9 dc, dc in next dc (refer to chart). On next row, when you reach the ch-29 space, (chain 2, skip 2 chains, dc in next chain) 9 times, then chain 2, skip 2 chains, dc in next dc. If you don't wish to have spaces for weaving ribbon into strap, follow same open mesh pattern as row before it, instead of doing the chain-29 for open space. Repeat the chart until you have the desired length. When all pieces are finished, sew main piece together in the back. Sew shoulder straps in place. Finish armholes and neck edge with single crochet and picots. To make a picot: chain 3, slip stitch in same stitch just made (at base of chain-3). Use your own judgement as to how many single crochet stitches you wish to do in between each picot. |
