This triangle scarf works up quickly in Aunt Lydia's "Denim" Quick Crochet. An online source for this thread is Herrschners at www.herrschners.com. |
For photos of finished scarf, shown in one solid color and also, in different color options, see: http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa071500.htm
The chart is worked in a 3 dc mesh. Each mesh consists of 3 double crochet.
The last dc of each mesh is also counted as the first dc of the next mesh.
First Solid Mesh of a Row: Chain 3 (counts
as the first dc of that row), dc in next chain-1 space or dc, dc in next dc.
Each Additional Solid Mesh: Dc in next chain-1 space or dc of
previous row, dc in next dc.
Each Additional Open Mesh: Chain 1, skip next chain-1 space or
dc of previous row, dc in next dc.

Materials: 150 yds. Aunt Lydia's "Denim" Quick Crochet (Blend of 75% Cotton,
25% Acrylic). US size 3 steel hook
Finished Size: 16 1/4 inches wide at Row 1 (not counting ties)
and 9 inches long from center to point.
Gauge: 5 dc = 1 inch, 4 rows = 1 1/2 inches
Directions
Abbreviations: ch = chain, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch
How to Decrease at the Beginning and End of Each Row: After row 1,
at the beginning of each new row, you will
slip stitch in first 2 dc, then chain 3 (counts as the first dc of that row).
At end of each row, leave the last two double crochet unworked.
Starting Chain: Chain 92.
Following Chart: Begin at bottom right-hand side of chart, working first row right to left.
For next row, follow chart from left to right. Continue alternating
directions in this manner at each new row.
Getting Started: To help you get started, I've written out the directions for the first
row. Continue to follow the chart from there. Once the basics of
filet crochet are learned, written directions are not needed for each
new chart. For a refresher on filet crochet basics, see:
http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa050298.htm
Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in each ch across. (44 solid mesh)
Rows 2 - 22: Follow chart.
End off.
Finishing: Attach thread in first dc of row 1. (Chain 2, slip stitch in first dc of next row) repeat. At row 22, you will have worked a slip stitch in the first dc of that row, chain 3, leaving chain-3 loop and last loop of each of next 3 dc on the hook dc in each of next 3 dc, thread over, pull through all loops on the hook, chain 1 to close. Now working down other side of scarf: Chain 3, slip stitch in next dc, (Chain 2, slip stitch in edge dc of next row), repeat. When you have reached row 1 and have worked a slip stitch in the edge dc of row 1, sl st in side of same dc, chain 80 for tie, slip stitch in each chain of tie. Slip stitch in end of row 1. Slip stitch in each stitch across the front edge of scarf (this gives edge a nice finished look). When you have reached opposite end, chain 80 for tie, slip stitch in each chain of tie. Sl st up to first chain-2. Work 3 single crochet in each chain-2 space along edge of scarf. 3 single crochet in each of the two chain-3 spaces of row 23 at point of scarf. Work 3 single crochet in each chain-2 space along edge of scarf. Slip stitch in end of row 1. End off. Weave in ends.
Irish Rose: Optional - I adapted the rose pattern from the Love Knot Yoke on this site. Work rows 1 - 4 only of the rose directions, so that you have only two rounds of petals. When doing your starting chain, leave a "tail" long enough to use for sewing the finished rose to the scarf. The Love Knot Yoke With Irish Rose pattern is on this page: http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa021000.htm
