From crochet.about.com - Simple Spring Flowers Handbag Strap Decoration

This free crochet pattern is for a decorative tie that is useful for tying around a handbag strap. I wrote the pattern to co-ordinate with my Spring Flowers Handbag pattern but the flower tie could be used to decorate other types of items, as well. Spring Flowers Handbag free pattern is at: http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa040906.htm

Abbreviations used in this pattern: ch = chain, ea = each, sl st = slip stitch, sp = space

Materials Used In The Example:
Worsted weight yarn - Scrap yarn in a small amount
U.S. Size H crochet hook

Finished size: about 8 1/2 inches long as a handbag tie (including the flower ends)
Gauge is not important for this project.

How To Slip Stitch (sl st) = Insert hook in stitch, wrap yarn over hook, pull yarn through the stitch and through the loop on the hook, at the same time.

Tie Directions:
First Spring Flower, Starting Chain: Chain 4, join with a sl st in the first ch, to form a ring.
Spring Flowers, Rnd 1: (ch 3, sl st in the ring) 7 times altogether, for 7 flower petals. Do not end off. Continue with Chain For Tie.
Chain For Tie: For a decorative handbag tie, as shown, chain 30 or for a longer tie (that will be tied into a bow), chain about 120. Do not end off. Continue with Second Spring Flower.
Second Spring Flower: sl st in the 4th ch of the Chain For Tie just made, then (ch 3, sl st in the ring) 7 times altogether, for 7 flower petals. End off. Weave in ends.

For the handbag tie, wrap the crocheted chain middle of the tie around the handbag strap and tie in one knot, to secure in place (as shown in the example at the top of this page).

Created By - This Spring Flowers Tie pattern created by Sandi Marshall. It's a very simple pattern and other crocheters could easily come up with something similar on their own. I created it to co-ordinate with my Spring Flowers Handbag pattern, which is my original handbag design.

Printing This Page: I've had requests for hints for printing the patterns from this site. After clicking on File at the top of your Internet browser, you can choose Print Preview to see ahead of time what part of the page is going to print for you. With many newer printers, this gives you a printing page with no ads included. But if your printer only shows the ad at the top of the page when you try to print, try clicking somewhere on a blank area of the pattern portion of the page, then click on File at the top of your Internet browser and choose Print. Having clicked on the pattern part of the page first tells your printer what part of the page you want to print. If there is a selection showing such as "Print Selected Frame Only" in the printer box that pops up, choose that option.
