Easy Single Crochet Halter Top Pattern Directions

| This halter top is easy enough for a beginner to make yet it's great
for experienced crocheters who want a quick project. It's a one-size-fits-most.
Halter top size is adjusted by how tightly or loosely the ties are tied.

Starting Chain: Leave a "tail" of at least 6 inches
for weaving in later (link to photo showing how to weave in at
end of directions). Chain 85.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in each chain across. (84 sc) Rows 2 - 5: Sc in each sc across. (84 sc) Row 6: Sc 1st two sc together for decrease, sc in each sc across until 2 sc remain. Sc last two sc together for decrease. (82 sc) Rows 7, 8: Sc in each sc across. Row 9: Decrease over first two sc, sc in each sc across until 2 sc remain. Decrease over last two sc. Rows 10 - 27: (Repeat rows 7 - 9) 6 more times. In other words, you will be making a decrease at each end of every third row. Row 28: Repeat row 9. Row 29: Sc in each sc across. Rows 30, 31: Repeat rows 28 & 29. Rows 32 - 45: Decrease over first two sc, sc in each sc across until 2 sc remain. Decrease over last two sc. In other words, you will be making a decrease at each end of every row. (38 sc left at end of row 45) End off. Finishing outside edge: Attach yarn at right-hand side edge of end of row 1. Bottom Row Tie: Make a chain 20 inches long, which is about 85 chains. Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook. Slip stitch in each chain across. Slip stitch in end of row 1. Continuing Outside Edge: Sc in end of each row until you reach row 31. |

Side Tie: At row 31, make a chain 22 inches long, which is about 93 chains. Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook. Slip stitch in each chain across. Slip stitch in end of row 31. Continuing Outside Edge: Sc in end of each row until you reach row 45. Top Side Tie: At row 45, sc in first stitch of row, then make a chain 25 inches long, which is about 105 chains. Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook. Slip stitch in each chain across. Single crochet in same stitch as last sc made. Top Center Tie: Make a chain 23 inches long, which is about
97 chains. Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook. Slip stitch in each chain across.

Second Top Center Tie: Make a chain 23 inches long, which is about
97 chains. Slip stitch in 2nd ch from hook. Slip stitch in each chain across.

Top Side Tie: Make a chain 25 inches long, which is about

Continuing Outside Edge: Sc in end of each row until you reach

Side Tie: At row 31, make a chain 22 inches long, which is about

Continuing Outside Edge: Sc in end of each row until you reach
row 1. Sc in end of row 1.
Bottom Row Tie: Make a chain 20 inches long, which is about 85
chains. Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook. Slip stitch in each chain across.
Slip stitch in end of row 1. Optional If desired, slip stitch in each
stitch across bottom edge to give it a nice finished look. End off.
Weave in Ends: Photos Showing How to Weave in Ends
You may prefer the basic halter top, with no cross-stitch, as shown above but, as another option, I sized this halter top so that you could cross-stitch my Manto Butterfly Design on the top, if you wanted to. To help you in positioning the butterfly on the halter top: the butterfly chart is 40 rows tall and 40 stitches wide. Find the center of the chart and the center of the halter top, then begin to cross-stitch from the center, working out to the sides.

I did an example of the Manto Butterfly cross-stitched as an outline, shown in the photo at left. I used worsted weight yarn to cross-stitch the butterfly and size 10 cotton crochet thread to make the antannae. Use the Filet Crochet Manto Butterfly Chart to cross-stitch as an outline or the Manto Butterfly Color Chart to cross-stitch this butterfly on in full color. The rest of my butterfly design series are the same size also. Lots of charts to choose from! |
