From crochet.about.com - The Sandi Marshall Cape Pattern
An Original Design by Sandi Marshall
This is a versatile pattern, which can be made into a short capelet or a longer cape. This cape can be considered completed at different stages of the crocheting process, depending on the finished look you want. The photo above shows it worked completely through the cape pattern, including all eight rows of the scalloped pineapple edging pattern. Additional photos, showing this pattern made into various styles, at: http://crochet.about.com/od/clothingforwomen/ss/SandiMCape.htm
Use a brooch as a closure to fasten the cape. When being worn, this fashion stretches with arm movements, creating another beautiful look when arms are reaching forward or to the side.
Please keep the copyright statement with this pattern when you print it or save it. I put a large amount of work into the development of this original pattern design. Please honor my copyright. Thank you. ~ Sandi Marshall
Materials Used In The Example:
Light Worsted Weight Yarn - about 11 oz. Caron Simply Soft brand yarn:
Color Plum wine 9722
Hook: US Size H crochet hook
One Size Fits Most
Finished Size, when made with materials above:
Cape Length: The example shown in the photo above (using all pattern rows
and all edging rows) is 17 inches long.
Cape Width: about 33 inches at top (neckline) when unfolded
and about 67 inches wide at bottom edge when unfolded
Gauge: 3 dc rows = 1 3/4 inches; 4 dc = 1 inch
To Make A Larger Size: Use regular worsted weight yarn and a size I hook.
Abbreviations: ch = chain, dc = double crochet, ea = each
sc = single crochet, sp = space, sl st = slip stitch
In this pattern, a shell = (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all worked in a same stitch and a V-stitch = (dc, ch 1, dc) all worked in a same stitch plus starting in row 5: another shell = (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all worked in a same stitch.

Additional Rows: Repeat Row 6. For the example cape shown in the photo above, I repeated row six 14 more times. At the following link, I show more photo examples of this cape crocheted in various lengths, so you can get an idea what style you want to crochet for yourself: http://crochet.about.com/od/clothingforwomen/ss/SandiMCape.htm
Note: The last row will add almost another inch to the length that you have now and if you crochet all 8 rows of the pineapple edging, that will add about an additional 4 inches. If you want the cape to be longer, repeat Row 6 as many times as needed for the length you will want, then continue with the last row directions.

The following scalloped pineapple edging is also an original design by me (Sandi Marshall). It is copyright protected, the same as the cape design. These pattern directions are being made available to you for your own personal, non-commercial use only. Do not distribute reproduced copies of the cape or of the edging directions in any form, even for free, per copyright law. See further terms of use at the end of the pattern directions. Your respect of these terms of use can help make it possible for me to continue to make my originally designed patterns available on the Internet. Every person makes a difference (positive or negative). Thank you in advance for making yours a positive difference. I appreciate it.
I designed a pineapple edging in Fall 2005, then I created three different versions of this same pineapple edging before I was satisfied that this one best complimented my cape design.

Used In Finishing Round: How To SC Around DC Post -
http://crochet.about.com/library/blscdpost.htm
Finishing Rnd: Working along the side of the rows,
work 2 sc around post of each dc along
the side edge, then work 1 sc in end of the sc row at the top, ch 2 for corner, then,
Top Edge: working in the remaining loops along the top edge, sc in ea sc until you
reach the next corner, ch 2 for corner then other side, working along the other
side of the rows, sc in end of sc row, then work 2 sc around post of ea dc along the edge.
When you reach the bottom edge, sl st in the end of the last capelet row
(right after the last dc post crocheted around).
How To Slip Stitch (sl st) = Insert hook in stitch, wrap yarn over hook, pull yarn through the stitch and through the loop on the hook, at the same time.

This cape with pineapple edging pattern is free for your own personal use only (meaning that you can use the pattern to crochet items for yourself or for gifts). Per copyright law, do not redistribute this pattern in any form, even for free (you can give out the web page URL and link to the pattern page, instead). You also may not sell items made from this pattern.
Copyright abuses on the Internet make it necessary to spell out terms of use, per copyright law, for anyone who may not already be aware. In light of the fact that the violater can be fined as much as $150,000. for a copyright infringement and the fact that copyright violations which take place on the Internet are done in public world view, it is important for crafters, who are using the Internet, to be educated as to what constitutes a copyright infringement. http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap5.html - on that page see number 504: Remedies for infringement: Damages, about fines for infringement.
It is illegal to even give away for free a reproduced copy of a copyrighted pattern when you do not have the express written permission of the copyright-holder to do so. Asking for or offering a reproduced copy of a copyrighted pattern in an Internet forum message is a public announcement of intent to commit copyright violation (when there is no written permission from the copyright-holder for the distributing of reproduced copies of that pattern). It is illegal to sell through an online auction a reproduced copy of a pattern that you obtained as a free pattern on the Internet, where that pattern is a a copyrighted pattern (again, when there is no written permission from the copyright-holder to redistribute). Putting it on a CD is a form of reproduced copy. Putting the pattern instructions on another web site (including in a forum message) is a form of distributing reproduced copies. Patterns that a designer chooses to make available as free patterns on the Internet are protected by the same copyright laws as patterns that are purchased. Current works are protected by copyright, even when no copyright notice appears on the work. I have seen some people try to claim educational purposes as a excuse to illegally share reproduced copies of copyrighted patterns through the Internet, but fair use or educational purposes in copyright law allows for only a very small portion or quote from a work to be reprinted without the permission of the copyright-holder and each case must meet certain other factors to qualify as fair use in a court of law.
So that there's no confusion about pattern terms of use (based on copyright law), following are further terms of use for this pattern spelled out:
If you vary this design, it is still only legal to use it for your own personal use or for gifts. Per copyright law, it would not be legal to submit for publication a pattern that is only a variation of this design (only the original designer and copyright-holder has that right). Rewording the pattern instructions for the same results, changing the color or making just a variation of a design does not change the original copyright protection of that design. Items that are made as variations of this design may not be sold and it would be illegal for the pattern instructions to be circulated as reproduced copies.
Please be aware that any reproduction or redistributing of the design, pattern instructions or pattern photos involves the written permission of both myself and About.com and involves the drawing up of legal paperwork detailing the specific permission to be granted, any fees for the requested use in reproducing or redistributing the pattern and signing of said legal paperwork by the parties involved.
Please note that the pineapple edging portion of the capelet pattern is also my own original design. You may use the edging separately for your own personal use or on items made for gifts but, per copyright law, you may not sell items that are made with this edging as part of the item and may not submit any pattern for publication that uses this edging as part of another design. The edging portion of the pattern cannot be redistributed separately as reproduced copies in any manner, the same as the cape and capelet portion of the pattern.
If others would like to have the Cape, Capelet and/or pineapple edging pattern instructions, please give the URL of the main
page for this pattern or the URL of this printing page, so that they may come to this
site for themselves to get the pattern directions. Thank you. You can make a positive difference
in my being able to continue designing new patterns and making them available on the Internet.
