This quick, easy scarf is worked in long rows. There are only 6 rows to complete the pattern. A length for fringe is left at the beginning and end of the rows, so there is no weaving in of ends in this pattern! Extra fringe can be added to the finished scarf. This is a great pattern for beginners but it is also enjoyable for experienced crocheters who are looking for a quick project.

Materials Used In The Example:
Caron Simply Soft (light worsted weight) yarn, in the following colors:
Color A: Fisherman, color #9715 - about 1 oz. needed
Color B: Iris, color #9747 - about 1/4 ounce needed
Hook: US Size G crochet hook

Finished Size, when made with materials above:
70 inches long (not counting fringe) x 1 3/4 inches wide

Gauge is not important for this project. Scarves come in many different widths and lengths so if yours varies from the example, that's fine.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
chs = chains
dc = double crochet
ea = each
sc = single crochet
sp = space
sl st = slip stitch

How To Slip Stitch (sl st) = Insert hook in stitch, wrap yarn over hook, pull yarn through the stitch and through the loop on the hook, at the same time. A slip stitch does not add any height and is used to join a chain or stitch to another place in the crochet piece. It can also be used to add a decorative ridge to the outside edge of a crocheted piece.

Starting Chain: Leaving a 6" length at the beginning for fringe, with color A, chain 269.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea ch across. (268 sc) Leaving a 6" length at the end for fringe, end off.
Row 2: Leaving a 6" length at the beginning for fringe, attach color B in first stitch of row 1. ch 1, sc in ea sc across. (268 sc) Leaving a 6" length at the end for fringe, end off.
Row 3: Leaving a 6" length at the beginning for fringe, attach color A in first stitch of row 2. ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in 2nd sc, (dc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc), repeat the directions between ( and ) across the row (as many times as needed) until only 2 sc remain, then dc in ea of last 2 sc.
Row 4: (continuing with color A), ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in 2nd dc, dc in next dc, (ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, dc in ea of next 2 dc), repeat the directions between ( and ) across the row (as many times as needed) until only 1 dc remains, then dc in last dc. Leaving a 6" length at the end for fringe, end off.

Row 5: Leaving a 6" length at the beginning for fringe, attach color B in first stitch of row 4. ch 1, sc in ea of first 3 dc, (sc in next ch-1 space, sc in ea of next 2 dc), repeat the directions between ( and ) across the row (as many times as needed) until only 1 dc remains, then sc in last dc. Leaving a 6" length at the end for fringe, end off.
Row 6: Leaving a 6" length at the beginning for fringe, attach color A in first stitch of row 5. ch 1, sc in first sc. sc in ea sc across the row. Leaving a 6" length at the end for fringe, end off.
Fringe: Vary the length according to your own preference. If you want a fringe length as shown in my photo examples: Cut 12" lengths of color A. To attach fringe, fold one length in half, then use your crochet hook to pull the yarn (at the fold) through one stitch at one end of the scarf (pulling it through only about one-half inch or so). Next, pull the rest of the fringe length through the loop that you just pulled through the scarf. With your fingers, tug down on the fringe to tighten it against the scarf.
