Example of Adjusting Afghan Square Sizes
Moonbeams Square Photo

From the book Afghan Inspirations, published by Annie's Attic
Pattern Designed by Rosalie de Vries, Shown Adjusted to be a Six Inch Square

Photo (c) 1998 Sandi Marshall

Square in photo crocheted by Sandi Marshall, from the pattern in the book Afghan Inspirations

To adjust this to be a 6 inch square:
The pattern calls for a size H hook. I used a size G hook with worsted weight yarn.
Rnds 1 - 3: Work as per their pattern directions.
My own adjustments:
Rnd 4: As you work this round, treble in each of the 3 dc where the pattern "dips" down a level to the round below, sc in each dc on the level of this round, with 3 sc in the center dc of each corner 5 dc group.
Rnd 5: sc in ea sc, with (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner.

The pattern from the book is not given here because this is a copyrighted pattern in a book still under copyright, meaning that it would be illegal to distribute reproduced copies of the pattern itself in any manner. We do want this publisher to continue publishing crochet patterns. What I give you here are directions for my own adjustments for using the pattern in the Afghan Inspirations book to adjust to a 6 inch square. This is a popular book that some of you may already own; it is certainly a book worth purchasing if you are so inclined.
