This is the hearts border that I created for my Year 2002 chart. I've removed the numbers from the center, in this version, so that you can use it in various other ways, such as adding a person's initials for a monogram or name doily or adding a short word to the center.
Another idea would be to combine a year chart (see year chart links on the right) with this Hearts Border (with initials added) to celebrate a baby's birth year. Some ideas would be using the charts to create a wall hanging, pillow front or as part of an afghan.
I've placed the chart and instructions for filet crochet on a printer-friendly page (see the link on the right, above). You can use this same chart to cross-stitch this design in solid color silhouette on a single crochet or afghan stitch background.
To make a crocheted background (the same size as the number of squares and number of rows on the chart) to cross-stitch the design on, starting chain is 48 chains for a single crochet background or 47 chains for an afghan stitch background. Crochet 25 rows.
