Rose Filet Crochet Sweater Chart

Materials
Crochet Cotton Size 3, 16 balls; for example,
Speed-Cro-Sheen is a size 3 thread.
Crochet Hook No. 5
Very little instruction is given for this sweater in the 1921 pattern book, but the chart is self-explanatory. I've also added a few instructions.
Follow chart. On this chart (worked in a 4 dc mesh):
Open Mesh 1 dc, ch 2, skip 2 stitches, 1 dc in next dc.
Solid Mesh 1 dc in dc, 2 dc in ch-2 space, 1 dc in next dc.
If solid mesh is worked over a solid mesh of previous row:
1 dc in each of next 4 dc.
On this chart:
white blocks = solid mesh (blocks)
black blocks = open mesh (spaces)
I enhanced the 1921 chart in a photo-editing program to bring out the white lines. When first scanned, some lines were very faded, making it hard to distinguish some of the open mesh squares. In addition, I touched up with a white line tool some of the areas that had still showed as faded.
Charts for publication were most definitely hand created in those days; the lines were rarely straight all the way down each line (guess the ruler had moved a little when they were tracing the lines for the chart)! We sometimes forget how fortunate we are to have software for computer-generated charts (with a straight line every time) at our disposal.
Only part of the back is shown on the chart (same as in the 1921 book) but it's simply continued in open mesh until the divided parts at the bottom, which you will work same as the front (fold sweater in half, matching up the sleeve edges evenly, to determine when the back is at the same row where the divided part began at the front).
When main piece of sweater is completed, attach collar across back and around
front of sweater, work as follows:
* Ch 3, 2 dc in same stitch, skip 2 stitches, repeat from * from side
to side.
Belt: No length is given in 1921 book; follow belt chart (working lengthwise, with two mesh), make belt the length you desire.
