Increasing in Filet Crochet

For the following, please note: Some patterns call it an open mesh; some patterns call it a space (they are one and the same).

Increasing open mesh (space) at the end of the row

Ch 2, yo (4 times), insert hook in same st as last dc worked. Next: Complete 1 treble treble (1 open mesh inc made). Third step: To increase another open mesh: Ch 2, yo (4 times), insert hook in middle post of last trtr made, complete 1 trtr. (Repeat third step for each additional open mesh increase.)

How to do a treble treble stitch

To do the open mesh increase explained above, you need to know how to do a treble treble crochet stitch.

TREBLE TREBLE CROCHET (trtr)	ILLUSTRATIONS	INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1		Step 1: Yo (4 times), insert hook in eighth ch from hook.
Step 2		Step 2: Yo, draw yarn through st, * yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook *, repeat from * to * 4 times (1 trtr).

Increasing a solid mesh (block) at the end of the row

Yo (twice), insert hook in same st as last dc worked, complete 1 tr. 2nd Step: Yo (twice), insert hook in base of last tr made, complete 1 tr. Third step: To increase another solid mesh (block): Repeat 2nd step once (1 solid mesh inc made). Repeat 2nd step (3 times more) for each additional solid mesh increase.

Increasing one open mesh (space) at the beginning of the row

At end of previous row, ch 2 + 3 (first dc) + 2 (first space), turn, dc in last dc of previous row (1 space inc made).

When you are increasing more than one open mesh (space) at the beginning of a row:

Step 1: At end of previous row, ch 2 for first additional space + ch 3 more for each additional space required + 3 (first dc), + 2 (first space), turn, dc in 8th ch from hook (first space inc made).

Step 2: * Ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc in next st *, repeat from * to * as required.

Increasing one solid mesh (block) at the beginning of the row

Step 1: At end of previous row, ch 2 + 3 (first dc) + 2 (first space), turn, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch (1 block inc made). Step 2: Dc in next dc, continue across, following chart.

When you are increasing more than one solid mesh (block) at the beginning of a row:

Step 1: At end of previous row, ch 2 (for first additional block) + 3 more for each additional block required, + 3 (first dc), turn, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch (first block inc made). Step 2: * Dc in next 3 sts *, repeat from * to * as required. Continue across following chart.
