Shell Triangles Afghan Free Pattern
Three Sizes - Lapghan, Throw and Full-Size
I created this design in June 2005 and used it for a scarf pattern, which I gave sections of alternating colors. I called it Monet Color Blocks Scarf. Now I've worked out the directions for repeats of this same design to be made into an afghan. I've figured the directions for 3 different afghan sizes.

US Size H hook
Finished Size: Before edging is added - About 28 x 34 inches for lapghan, 39 1/2 x 47 inches for throw, 47 1/2 x 60 inches for full size afghan.
Gauge: 3 shell rows = 2 inches; two 4-dc shells = 2 inches across (measuring at top of shells)
Abbreviations: ch = chain, dc = double crochet, ea = each, sc = single crochet, sp = space
Directions are for lapghan size, with throw and full size changes in parenthesis.

Starting Chain: chain 89 (125, 149)
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea ch across. (88 sc, 124 sc or 148 sc)
Rows 2 - 6: ch 1 to turn, sc in first sc, sc in ea sc across.
Row 7: ch 3 (counts as first dc), another dc in first sc, * skip next 2 sc, 4 dc in next sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 27 more times (39 more times, 47 more times), then skip next 2 sc, 2 dc in last sc.
Row 8: ch 3 (counts as first dc), another dc in first sc, skip next 3 dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc (V-Stitch made), * skip next 3 dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 26 more times (38 more times, 46 more times), then skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc.
Row 9: ch 3 (counts as first dc), another dc in first dc, * skip next 2 dc, 4 dc in ch-1 sp (in center of V-Stitch) **, repeat the directions between * and ** 27 more times (39 more times, 47 more times), then skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc.
Row 10: Repeat Row 8.
Row 11: ch 3 (counts as first dc), another dc in first dc, [ skip next 2 dc, 4 dc in ch-1 sp (in center of V-Stitch) * skip next 2 dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp **, repeat the directions between * and ** 2 more times, ] repeat the directions between [ and ] 6 more times (9 more times, 11 more times), then skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc.

Row 15: Repeat Row 8.
Row 16: ch 1 (to turn), sc in ea of first 3 dc, * sc in ch-1 sp, sc in ea of next 2 dc **, repeat the directions between * and ** across the row until one stitch remains, then sc in last dc. (88 sc, 124 sc or 148 sc)
Rows 17 - 21: ch 1 (to turn), sc in ea sc across.
Additional Rows: Repeat Rows 7 - 21 four more times for lapghan (6 more times for throw, 8 more times for full size afghan).
When finished, work an outside round in single crochet.

Outside Round: (working down the side), ch 1 to start, sc in edge of each sc row and work 2 sc around post of the end dc of ea dc row along the side, then for corner: (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, sc in ea sc across end, then work other side in same manner as first side.
