Purple Azure Butterfly Design Charted
For Filet and Cross-stitch
An original, designed by Sandi Marshall

|
I designed this Purple Azure Butterfly design in 1997, as a color chart. I've now recharted it to be worked in filet crochet also. You can use this same filet crochet chart to cross-stitch this design in solid color silhouette on a single crochet or afghan stitch background.
To work the chart as a solid color silhouette cross-stitch on a crocheted background, starting chain is 41 chains for single crochet or 40 chains for afghan stitch. Crochet 40 rows. Click on "Learn Stitches" at left (under the "Subjects" heading) for a link to a how-to for working cross-stitch on an afghan stitch background.
About The Purple Azure Butterfly: It is the female of this species that displays a deep
purple over her wings; the male butterfly is a bright royal blue.
This is a small butterfly, growing to only about 2 1/4 inches.
It is of the Lycaenidae family and is found in Australia.

Copyright Law Awareness:
Per copyright law, it would be
a copyright violation to sell or give away copies of a copyrighted pattern without the written permission
of the designer or publisher. Patterns that a designer chooses to make available as free patterns
are protected by the same copyright laws as patterns that are purchased.
When does copyright expire? Patterns first published
before the year 1923 have fallen into the public domain. The laws have changed through
the years so different copyright laws can govern different years. Research carefully.
For patterns after 1923, research each at copyright office site (URL below)
for length of copyright term for that year and do a search to see if the copyright
was renewed or not. How to Research Copyright Status:
http://www.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ22.html.
US Law governing current works: On works created after
January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for author's/designer's lifetime plus an additional
70 years after author's/designer's death. Current works are protected by copyright even if no
copyright notice appears on the work!
You can also make a positive difference in the continuing of new free patterns being made available on the Internet by giving out the URL where a pattern may be found (so people can go to that web page to get the pattern for themselves), instead of giving the actual pattern away as email attachments, scans or photocopies.
