Above is a color example of the design. The chart is on a separate page. If making a crocheted background the same size as the chart, starting chain is 62 chains for single crochet or 61 chains for afghan stitch. Crochet 58 rows. To finish, you may want to do one finishing round in single crochet around the outside edge.
When doing the cross-stitch on a single crochet or afghan stitch background, work the cross-stitch in the same weight of yarn that you used to crochet the background. Thread the yarn on to a large-eye yarn needle, to do the cross-stitch. If desired, when cross-stitching is finished, use a darker color yarn to do a straight outline stitch around the edges of the color areas (as shown on parts of the flag, in the example above).
