Tropical Fish Color Chart

Designed by Sandi Marshall

The colors in the chart above are only a suggestion, to give you an idea of the colors you might use when doing this design as a cross-stitch (the exact shades of colors you are viewing here depend on the type of monitor you have and the color settings you are using on your monitor). A tropical fish lends itself to varied imaginary color patterning, so have fun thinking up your own color scheme. I used a very random color effect for the sea water in this example, using a variety of shades of blues and greens, randomly placed.

To make a crocheted background to cross-stitch the design on, starting chain is 61 chains for single crochet or 60 chains for tunisian afghan stitch. Work this background for 60 rows. How to cross-stitch on single crochet

Making as a pillow: This would be great as a pillow front. Make a second piece of the same size for the back. When cross-stitch is completed on the pillow front, hold right sides together and join three sides by sewing together with yarn, using a large-eye needle or by crocheting together with slip stitch. Turn right-side out. Stuff. Sew together on remaining open edge to close.

The following two black and white chart version links include instructions for working the charts in filet crochet. You can use the same charts for cross-stitch, adding your own choice of color scheme. See the printing pages of each for two charts of that version, showing one fish facing right and one fish facing left.
