Venetia Pattern Stitch
This pattern stitch is from a 1917 pattern book, where the only instructions given for this stitch were "3 single crochet taking back loop, 3 single crochet taking front loop." I've added to and rewritten the instructions so that it will be easier for crocheters of all skill levels to crochet.
This pattern is great practice for learning to crochet in one loop only of a stitch. As this pattern stitch demonstrates, crocheting in one loop only can be used to create a texture pattern within a crochet design.
My Rewritten Instructions:
sc = single crochet
Starting Chain Formula: Chain a multiple of 3, plus 1. Multiple Of, Explained: http://crochet.about.com/od/learnbasics/qt/multiple.htm
Note: At end of each row, you will chain 1, to turn.
Row 1 (foundation row): Single crochet in second chain from hook,
single crochet in each chain across.
Row 2: Sc in back loop only of first 3 sc, * sc in front loop only of next 3 sc, sc in back loop only of next 3 sc, repeat from * across.
Repeat row 2: Repeat row 2 until you have reached the length desired.
Pattern stitch was printed in the antique book "Fleisher's Knitting & Crocheting Manual", published in the year 1917. How long does copyright last?
