Butterflies Chart Showing How to Add Embellishment to Filet
Chart Designed by Sandi Marshall

Sometimes on a filet crochet piece, some of the detail seems to get "lost"
in the blending together of the solid areas.
An example of this would be this chart with a butterfly in each corner, where the edge of each butterfly wing blends with the center design portion. |

To clarify the butterfly shapes, I used an outline edging method to add color around the outside edge of each butterfly. This is done on the surface of the piece, after the filet is completed. I've written complete directions on how to do this on this page. |

This outline edging method can be used to add color to any filet crochet piece.
I've added to my site a free chart of the above butterfly design so you can practice doing outline edging with this filet piece, if you would like to. It's a variation of the Butterfly Circle chart that I designed in July this year. On the free chart page, I've given finished sizes when making this design with sizes 5 through 30 thread, so you can choose the size thread that you prefer to work with.
