Bhutanitis Mansfieldi Butterfly Design

Materials
Worsted weight yarn: 1 oz. white, 1 oz. black
1/2 oz. pale yellow, small amount orange

Size G crochet hook

Guage: 4 stitches = 1 inch, 4 rows = 1 inch

Apprx. size of each finished square = 10 inches

Butterfly colors are crocheted in, following the chart.
The antannae, indicated in blue on the color chart, are embroidered on when the square has been completed.

Another method is to work the design in cross stitch on a crocheted single crochet or afghan stitch background.

Directions - Read the chart as one square on the chart = one single crochet stitch.
Starting Chain: With white yarn, chain 41.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea ch across. (40 sc)
Rows 2, 3: sc in ea sc across.
Row 4: Begin chart at first row on the chart, making color changes as indicated, while sc in ea sc across.
Rows 5 - 37: Continue to follow chart, while sc in ea sc across.
After completing all rows on the chart:
Rows 38 - 40: With white yarn, sc in ea sc across.
End off.

Finishing - Using a straight stitch, with black yarn or embroidery floss, embroider antennae.
