Crochet Seams

You might think of seaming as a mundane task that requires zero creativity, but if you do, I hope you'll reconsider. Your seams will greatly affect the look of the finished item, and in some cases the seams you choose can even make or break the entire project.

Depending on the project, seaming can be just as creative as any other part of the project. There are quite a few creative decisions to make along the way: the type of seam you use, the color(s) you choose for seaming, perhaps even the loops or stitches you work through.

Whip stitch is one of my favorite methods for sewing seams. Here's a whip stitch tutorial with step-by-step pictures and instructions.

It's the side seam that transforms a simple crocheted rectangle into a fabulous fingerless glove. The secret? When you sew the seam, you leave an opening large enough for someone's thumb. This tutorial gives you the details, including several helpful work-in-progress photos.
