All of these squares are crocheted using Caron Simply Soft yarn, which is a worsted weight acrylic yarn.

Crocheted Square Pictured in the Upper Left Photo: The main color of this design is called "Bone." The second color is called "Blue Mint." This picture shows the square in an unfinished state; at this point, I had finished crocheting the charted design but had not yet added the surface crochet slip stitches. Upper Right Crocheted Square: Main color is "Bone"; the second color is called "Sage." Again, this picture shows the square before the surface crochet slip stitches have been added. Click here to get the free chart for crocheting this pattern.

Lower Left Crocheted Square: This picture shows how the "Bone" and "Blue Mint" square looks after the surface crochet slip stitches have been added. I used the "Sage" colored yarn to outline the checkerboard design.

Lower Right Crocheted Square: This photo shows how the "Bone" and "Sage" square looks after the surface crochet slip stitches have been added. I used the "Blue Mint" colored yarn to outline the checkerboard design.

As you can see, the surface crochet slip stitches add visual interest to this design. They make the mini checkerboard pattern appear to "pop" off of its background a bit better, and the extra color is a nice touch too.
