The basic building block here is a simple two-color crocheted square.
- Crochet Stitch Used: Single crochet stitch
- Crochet Technique: Tapestry crochet, worked in rows
- Size: Approximately 6.5 inches when crocheted with worsted weight yarn; 25 stitches high x 25 stitches wide
That's the basic formula, but as you'll see when you browse through this image gallery, the square can be varied in many different ways.
I've been playing with creating cross stitch designs for the center panel; that's one possible way to introduce more colors into the design, and to vary the look of the squares.
These crocheted squares coordinate with several other similar designs, expanding your options even more. Any of these designs can stand alone or be combined, as you please, to create your own unique crocheted afghan.
