Here we have a chart that shows both the crocheted color changes and the cross stitch. Each square on this chart represents one single crochet stitch.
Each square with an X over it represents one single crochet stitch that has a cross stitch worked on top of it.
I used Caron Simply Soft to crochet my sample afghan squares. The colors used in this version of the design are are Autumn Maize (used in the border and the tree trunk); Autumn Red (used to cross stitch the background); and Dark Sage (used to crochet the pine tree.)
