These free crocheted afghan square patterns are organized by size. Keep in mind that the sizes listed are somewhat flexible; in most cases you can add outside rounds to make the squares slightly larger, or adjust your hook size / yarn size to get different results.
Four Inch Afghan Square

- Easy Beginner's Crochet Granny Square by Amy Solovay -- This little granny square is crocheted using chain stitches, double crochet, and single crochet.
Five Inch Afghan Squares
- Summer Bedspread Granny Square by Amy Solovay -- This granny square is lighter and more delicate than most others, making it a great choice for a summer bedspread. Of course, there are plenty of other ways you could use it.
- Shell Puff Block Afghan Square by Sandi Marshall -- This pretty one-color afghan square measures only five inches.
- Solid Shell Afghan Square by Sandi Marshall -- This afghan square combines the solid shell stitch with a border of half double crochet stitch for a beautiful textured effect.
- Shell Stripes Afghan Square by Sandi Marshall -- This pattern gives you yet another option for using the solid shell stitch in a five-inch afghan square. This version is an interesting textured stripe design.
Six Inch Afghan Squares
- Striped Checkerboard Baby Afghan Square by Amy Solovay-- There are several different pages you might like to take a look at if you want to crochet this square. First of all, there are some lovely patchwork afghans you can make using this design. There are also many different colorways I've created for this design. - Spider Lace Afghan Square -- I am not sure who created the original vintage spider lace design. It was included in a vintage crochet pattern book by Emma Farnes in the early 1900s, but the design predates that publication.
