This checkerboard baby afghan square is crocheted using two different colors of Bernat Softee baby yarn: pale blue and white. My finished square measures about ten and a half inches wide. To make a baby afghan, you'd need to join at least nine of these squares.
This colorway would be perfect for use in a baby boy's afghan. I do suggest combining these colors with other colorways in order to keep the design interesting; it would be nice to alternate these colors with green and white checkerboard squares, for example.
If you'd like to crochet an afghan for a baby girl, substitute pink, peach or purple baby yarn in place of the blue yarn. If you'd rather crochet a unisex afghan, you could make the checkerboard design in white, yellows, greens, cream, tans or khakis.
The square pictured here was made using tapestry crochet and the single crochet stitch > Click here to get the free crochet pattern.
