Following are finishing instructions for the capelet. The pattern for the capelet itself is on page 1 of this pattern.

Outside Edging: ch 1, make 4 sc around the post of the treble on the end of the row closest to you on this side, make 4 sc around the post of the treble on the end of each row along this side until you reach the single crochet row at the top of the cape. sc in the end of that sc row then ch 2 for a corner, sc in remaining loop of starting chain at top edge of cape, * ch 2, skip next remaining loop, sc in next remaining loop **, repeat the directions between * and ** as many times as needed to go across the row. Do not end off yet. Do not turn. Next part is worked along the next side edge. ch 2 for corner, sc in the end of the sc row, make 4 sc around the post of each treble on the end of each row along this side. When you reach the end of the row, slip stitch in the lowest edge of the last treble to give a finished look to the ending of this outside edging.
End off, leaving a strand for weaving in. Weave in the ends, to secure.

Note: If you need an explanation for working single crochet around the post of a stitch, see my how-to for working around the post of double crochet stitches. Working around the post of a treble is done in the same manner as around the post of a double crochet; you are just making more sc stitches around the post of the treble to fill it. See these help photos at: http://crochet.about.com/library/blscdpost.htm

Drawstring: Make a chain of the length that will work for the size of cape that you crocheted, so that there is enough to go all the way across the top when the top edge is flat and having enough beyond that for tying into a bow at the two cape edges. One way to figure this out would be to begin with the starting chain length that you chose when making the capelet then add about another 60 chains or so. Weave in the ends of the drawstring to secure. At the top edge of the capelet, weave the finished drawstring through the holes that were made by each chain-2 of the outside edging. Tie a knot on each separate end of the drawstring, to secure the drawstring ends.

Buttons: If you wish to add any buttons on one side of the front of the cape, choose a large button that will work with the size of the opening between two treble stitches and use these treble stitch openings as the buttonholes.
