Love a Child, Inc has requested donations of blankets for use by Haiti’s earthquake victims. The blankets must be in new condition. The blankets can be crocheted, knit, sewn, or constructed using any other appropriate technique; they can be either handmade or store-bought, as long as they are new.
Blankets are not the only needed items. A complete PDF list of other requested items can be found here.
In a blog post dated Feb 6-7 2010, Sherry Burnette, President of the organization, noted that thousands of blankets, sheets and pillows are needed for the purpose of making amputees comfortable. She asked that these donations be sent to the following address:
Love A Child, Inc.
9304 Camden Field Parkway
Riverview, FL 33578
Considerations for Blanket Materials:
- Haiti’s climate is generally hot and tropical. Use materials appropriate for these conditions.
- Keeping the blankets clean could pose a challenge for the recipients, and we should assume that dry-cleaning isn’t likely to be a workable option for them. So, dry-clean-only yarns are not a good choice. Use washable yarns instead.
