After First Round - V-Stitch, continue with the following instructions:

Loops Round For Join As You Go, First Square - ch 4, { sc in ch-3 corner loop, ch 4, sc in next dc, ch 4, skip next dc, * sc in the ch-1 in the center of the v-st, ch 4, skip next 2 dc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 6 times, sc in the ch-1 in the center of the v-st, ch 4, sc in next dc }, repeat the directions between { and } 3 times to go all the way around the square, then sl st in the stitch at the base of the first ch-4 of this round. End off. Weave in ends.
