This can be worn as a sash belt or as a skinny scarf. It is worked in long rows. Three different starting chains are given for various lengths.
In this design, I made the V-stitches pull into a slanted direction by skipping 3 stitches after the v-stitch and then doing a shorter stitch (a single crochet). Slanted Vs How-To Photo. The pattern repeat is 4 stitches wide so you can add or subtract from the starting chain in any multiple of 4, if you want a shorter or a longer scarf.
Abbreviations: ch = chain, dc = double crochet, ea = each, sc = single crochet, sl st = slip stitch, sp = space, st = stitch
Materials: about 2 (2 1/2, 3) oz. worsted weight yarn, US size H hook. I used Red Heart Fiesta, color Millenium in the example.
Finished Size: about 1 3/4 inches wide and 60 (73, 86) inches long (these lengths are for the 3 starting chain choices given)
Pattern Note: You will turn at the end of each row.
Starting Chain: ch 210 (246, 282).
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, sc in ea ch across. (209, 245 or 281 sc)
Rows 2 - 3: ch 1 to turn, sc in back loop only of ea sc across. Note: Crocheting in the back loops only creates the ridges for this design.
Row 4: This row is worked in both loops of the stitches. ch 1 to turn,
(sc, dc, ch 1, dc) all in first sc, * skip 3 sc, (sc, dc, ch 1, dc) all in next sc, **,
repeat the directions between * and ** as many times as needed to go across the row,
until 4 sc remain, then skip 3 sc, sc in last sc.
Row 5: ch 1 to turn, sc in first sc, * sc in next dc, sc in next ch-1 sp,
sc in next dc, sc in next sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** as many times as
needed to go across the row.
Rows 6 and 7: ch 1 to turn, sc in back loop only of ea sc across.
End off, leaving a strand for weaving in. Weave in the ends, to secure.
