The Tulip Baby Cloche makes a sweet year-round hat for baby.

The traditional bell shape of the Tulip Baby Cloche makes a perfect year-round style. Personalize your hat by adding ribbon, craft flowers, or a crocheted flower applique just above the brim.

If you’re new to crocheting in the round then you may find it helpful to read the Crocheting in the Round Tutorial before beginning this project.

Materials
Yarn:
1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Economy [100% acrylic; 5 ounces/141 grams; 260 yards/238 meters; worsted weight] Color #310, Monet.

If you wish to make substitutions, look for a worsted weight yarn that will get you a similar gauge as that listed below. You will need approximately 50 – 75 yards.

Crochet Hook:
US size I (5.5mm) hook
Adjust hook sizes as necessary to achieve gauge listed below.

Extras:
Tapestry needle

Gauge:
12 sc and 16 rnds = 4 square inches using size I (5.5mm) hook.

Finished Measurements:
11.5 (14, 16)” circumference.

To Fit Sizes:
Preemie (Baby, Toddler) -- Shown in size Baby/14.”


Crochet Abbreviations Used in This Pattern
* = a repeat in the pattern
beg = beginning
ch = chain
rep = repeat
rnd = round
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)


Pattern Notes
All sizes begin in the same manner. Once the appropriate number of stitches is reached for your size you will be instructed to move ahead in the instructions.


Baby Cloche Pattern
Foundation Rnd: Ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to first sc to join rnd -- 7 sc.

Rnd 1: Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 2 sc in each st to end of rnd, sl st into beg ch -- 14 sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 1 sc in next st, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st; rep from * to end, sl st into beg ch -- 21 sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 1 sc in next 2 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 2 sts; rep from * to end, sl st into beg ch -- 28 sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 1 sc in next 3 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 sts; rep from * to end, sl st into beg ch -- 35 sc.

Stop increasing here from Preemie/11.5” size and move to Rnd 7.


Rnd 5 (Baby/Toddler Only): Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 1 sc in next 4 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 4 sts; rep from * to end, sl st into beg ch -- 42 sc.

Stop increasing here from Baby/14” size and move to Rnd 7.


Rnd 6 (Toddler Only): Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 1 sc in next 5 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 5 sts; rep from * to end, sl st into beg ch -- 49 sc.

Stop increasing here from Toddler/16” size and move to Rnd 7.


Rnd 7 (All Sizes): Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), 1 sc in each st around, sl st into beg ch to end -- 35 (42, 49) sc.

*Repeat Rnd 7 until hat measures 4 (4.5, 5.25)” in length (from center of crown to bottom edge).


Rnd 8: Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 1 sc in next 6 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 6 sts; rep from * to end, sl st into beg ch -- 40 (48, 56) sts.

Rnd 9: Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, 1 sc in next 7 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 7 sts; rep from * to end, sl st into beg ch -- 45 (54, 63) sts.

Rnd 10: Ch 3 (counts as first tr), dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st; *sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, tr in next st, dc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * to last 4 sts, sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, sl st to beg ch to join rnd -- 45 (54, 63) sts.

Rnd 11: Ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), sc in same st, sc in next st, sl st in next 3 sts, *sl st in next 3 sts, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, sl st in next 3 sts; rep from * to last 4 sts, sl st in next 3 sts, sc in next st, sl st to beg ch to end rnd -- 50 (60, 70) sts.

Fasten off yarn and weave in ends using tapestry needle.
