A Free Crochet Pattern for Sweet Potato Squared Baby Hat

This simple crochet baby hat doesn’t require any shaping (increasing or decreasing) techniques. The open stitch pattern makes it a perfect choice for Spring, Summer, or Fall baby wear.

Make this hat as part of a set with the Sweet Potato Baby Slippers, Baby Blanket, and coordinating Sweet Potato Baby Beanie.

Skill Level: Easy+

Materials

Yarn: Knit Picks, Comfy Worsted [75% pima cotton/25% acrylic; 109 yards; 50 grams; worsted weight]

Main Color: 1 skein “Sweet Potato”

Coordinating Color: 1 skein “Sea Foam”

Any worsted weight yarn can be substituted for this project. A machine washable fiber is always highly recommended for baby items. Check the yarn label for care instructions before purchasing. You’ll need approximately 55 (66, 77, 88) yards or 25 (30, 35, 40) grams in your yarn of choice.

Adjust hook sizes as necessary to achieve gauge listed below.

Extras: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge: 12 sc and 20 rows = 4” using size H/5mm hook.

Finished Measurements: 10 (12, 14, 16)” circumference.

To Fit: Head size up to 12 (14, 16, 18)” circumference, or ages Preemie 1 (Preemie 2/Newborn, Baby, Toddler)
