Bedspreads and coverlets are engaging crochet projects that will keep you busy for quite a while.

No matter what your skill level, you can crochet a bedspread. A determined beginner could make a granny square bedspread while an experienced crocheter might like to try one of the more challenging bedspread patterns we've posted.

    As far as bedspreads go, about the easiest one to make uses a simple granny square pattern as the basis for your design.

    The first step is to crochet a bunch of squares using the granny square pattern of your choice. Then you would join them using a whip stitch or another joining technique to create the main body of your bedspread.

    In the end, you'd add a gorgeous edging to complete the look.

    This little granny is a bit different than many of the granny square designs you see around. The motif in the center resembles a cross, hence the name. This square is best-suited to making bedspreads, but you also can use it for other purposes.

    Here is a simpler granny square design, known as "the summer bedspread granny square." This is a nice pattern for crocheting bedspreads intended for use during warm weather.

    You might also wish to crochet basic granny squares using crochet thread to create a bedspread or coverlet.

    These two patterns are similar, but there are important differences between them.

    This diamond pattern was originally designed while using the tapestry crochet technique. After trying it in filet crochet, the results turn out quite lovely. This square would be a beautiful bedspread component.

    If you're adventurous enough to try crocheting an entire bedspread using different patterned squares, try mixing and matching designs. You could use as few or as many squares as you want to customize your unique bedspread design.
