Embroidery Chain Stitch Used as a Method for Joining Crochet to a Kitchen Towel

In the photo above, the chain embroidery stitches are shown added to a kitchen towel, as a method of preparing the towel for adding a crocheted towel topper. The upper photo gives a close look at two loops completed, the center photo shows a partial line of the loops and the lower photo shows the line of chain loops going across the center of the towel.

Try to estimate the size of the loops needed in order to space them across the towel in the number of loops that would be needed to match (as close as possible) the number of crochet stitches that will be in the first row of the pattern you are using for the towel topper. If it doesn't match exactly, you can use increasing or decreasing when crocheting the first row, as explained on the next photo page.

As you can see in the lower photo, my line of chain loops was not perfectly straight but, because the towel gathers when adding the crocheted topper, this didn't show at all after I added the crochet rows. So if you finish your row of chain loops and see that it's not perfectly straight, there's no need to rip it out to start over. As long as it's not way off, it should be fine.
