These photos show the steps for adding crochet to a line of embroidered chain stitches. For example, you could use this method to attach a crocheted topper to a kitchen towel, without having to do any hemming to the towel. How to make the embroidered chain stitches
Upper Photo: Attach the yarn to the first embroidered chain loop on the right-hand side. Insert the crochet hook under both loops of that first chain loop. Pull the yarn through the loop.
Lower Photo: Chain 1, then make a single crochet in the usual way. Single crochet in each chain loop across. If the count of the chain loops doesn't work out just right to match the number of single crochet that you want to have in the first row of single crochet for your pattern, you could work a single crochet decrease over two of the chain loops, as needed, spacing decreases evenly across the row (or, if the opposite is needed, increase by working 2 single crochet in a chain loop if you need more single crochet in the first row than the number of chain loops that are in the row).
