Circle Center Boxed Shell Six-Sided Hexagon Motif

This hexagon pattern begins with a circle center and continues in a varied boxed shell type design that I came up with. The photo shows eight rounds completed.

Abbreviations: ch = chain, chs = chains, ea = each, dc = double crochet, rnd = round, sc = single crochet, sp = space, st = stitch, sts = stitches

Materials: any weight of yarn or size of thread. Some popular choices are: worsted weight yarn with US size H hook or size 10 thread with US size 7 or 8 steel hook

Pattern Note: This pattern is worked in rounds. Do not turn at the end of a round.

Starting Chain: chain 6, join with a slip stitch in the first chain to form a ring.

Rnd 1: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ring, * ch 2, 2 dc in ring **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then ch 2, sl st in top of beginning ch-3 of this round.

Rnd 2: ch 1, sc in first dc, sc in next dc, * 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in ea of next 2 dc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sl st in beginning sc of this round.

Rnd 3: ch 3 (counts as first dc), 3 more dc in first sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sc, 4 dc in next sc, * ch 3, skip next 3 sc, 4 dc in next sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then ch 3, sl st in top of beginning ch-3 of this rnd.

Rnd 4: ch 5 (counts as first dc and first ch-2), skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-3 sp, * dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-3 sp **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-5 of this rnd.

Rnd 5: ch 1, sc in first dc, * 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in ea of next 3 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in ea of next 3 dc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in ea of next 3 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-3 sp, sc in ea of next 2 dc, sl st in beginning sc of this rnd.

Rnd 6: sl st in ea of next 2 sc, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 more dc in same place as ch-3 just made, skip next sc, 3 dc in next sc, skip next 2 sc, * (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-3 sp, (skip next 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc) 3 times, skip next sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-3 sp, skip next 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc, sl st in top of beginning ch-3 of this rnd.

Rnd 7: ch 4 (counts as first dc and first ch-1), skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner sp, * ch 1, (skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc) 4 times, ch 1, skip next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner sp **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then ch 1, skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-4 of this round.

Rnd 8: ch 1, sc in first dc, (sc in ch-1 sp, sc in ea of next 2 dc) 3 times, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 corner sp, * (sc in ea of next 2 dc, sc in ch-1 sp) 5 times, then sc in ea of next 2 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 corner sp **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then (sc in ea of next 2 dc, sc in ch-1 sp) twice, then sc in next dc, sl st in beginning sc of this rnd.
End off, leaving a strand for weaving in. Weave in the ends, to secure.
