Parts of this pattern: Rounds 1 - 8, same as Boxed Shell Hexagon . Rnds 9 - 16 (on this page) . Rnds 17 - 20 . Rnds 21 - 23

Abbreviations: beg = beginning, ch = chain, chs = chains, ea = each, dc = double crochet, sc = single crochet, sp = space, st = stitch, sts = stitches

Materials: any weight of yarn or size of thread. Some popular choices are: worsted weight yarn with US size H hook (for about a 24 inch motif) or size 10 thread with US size 7 or 8 steel hook (for about a 9 inch motif)

Pattern Note: This pattern is worked in rounds. Do not turn at the end of a round.

Starting Chain, Rnds 1 - 8: Follow the directions for rnds 1 - 8 of my Boxed Shell Hexagon Pattern. The directions for those 8 rounds can be printed from crochet.about.com/od/motifs/a/cctrbhexagon.htm

Rnd 9: sl st in next sc, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 more dc in same place as ch-3 just made, skip next 3 sc, (3 dc in next sc, skip next 2 sc) twice, * (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-3 sp, (skip next 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc) twice, (skip next 3 sc, 3 dc in next sc) twice, skip next 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc, skip next 2 sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-3 sp, (skip next 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc) twice, skip next 3 sc, sl st in top of beg ch-3 of this rnd.

Rnd 10: ch 4 (counts as first dc and first ch-1), skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc, (ch 1, skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc) twice, ch 1, skip next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner sp, * (ch 1, skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc) 6 times, ch 1, skip next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner sp **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then (ch 1, skip next dc, dc in ea of next 2 dc) twice, then ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-4 of this round.

Rnd 11: ch 1, sc in first dc, (sc in ch-1 sp, sc in ea of next 2 dc) as many times as needed until you reach next corner chain space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner sp, * (sc in ea of next 2 dc, sc in ch-1 sp) as many times as needed until 2 dc remain before next corner chain space, then sc in ea of next 2 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner sp **, repeat the directions between * and ** 4 more times, then (sc in ea of next 2 dc, sc in ch-1 sp) as many times as needed until one dc remains before the end of this round, then sc in next dc, sl st in beg sc of this rnd.
